SPOILER A Call to Arms novel vs novella?

Being a bear of very little brain, I was happily enjoying the snippets for the novel over on Eric Flint's site without thinking about its relation to the novella until I realised I had read about half the most recent snippet before. Since the novella is, no doubt, canonical and deals with the same major event from the same character's viewpoint, the question arises of how much new material is actually in the book and whether it's worth buying it or whether it's one to get from the library. Anyone who has read it like to comment, preferably without revealing too much of whatever new material there is? TIA.

Hi

Yes, I WOULD buy the novel as there are significant differences between it and the novella. For one thing it covers a much greater period both before and during the battle. It also goes more into the motivation of Travis Long & other characters & presents a more rounded picture; (including exposing some of Travis's flaws). It shows that the other characters are not two dimensional figures & presents a different point of view, not just Travis's. It also expands upon the political machinations of Earl Breakwater & Travis's half brother.

agreed. there is a fair chunk of repetition as you'd expert but there is also a lot of new material. If i weren't such an impatient person i'd say wait for proper release rather then e-arc but i can never wait that long.

particularly as with weber the wait can be anywhere from 9 months to 2 months.

I have the E-ARC and agree with Dauntless - lots of new POV, lots added before and after the parts covered by the novella. Definitely read.

You think you are impatient?

I go to all the trouble of buying the eARC & then altering it so it has the punctuation & text structure exactly the way I like it...

...Then the hardback comes out & I never look at my revised eARC again.

Talk about being anal!
