So, Old Coot,
would you name the war by what happened after it?

Then it might have been called the War Of Southern Agression. Other names include the Civil War, The War Between the States, The War of Succession.

Who shot first? We were taught it was the Union guns who first opened up. Then the Southern guns. Nobody was even killed until a Northern gun blew up some how during some sort of strange salute after surrendering. The first apparent deaths of that horrible state of affairs may have been self inflected ... by the North on the North. I suppose it all depends where you lived, where you went to school and what you were told by family who actually did live in the South at that time. Very sad time.

Only the victorious paint history and they use a broad brush. We happened to grow up on the losing side. North Carolina and Virginia.

Does not anybody on this Excellent Forum understand the significance beween "Oven Tempered" vs "Quilted Strength"? Important! :)

Have you not flogged that horse long enough? There are others ways to say "You must be crazy to disagree with ME!!!"

The south started the war for extremely shitty reasons, deserved to loose and lost, those are simple and basic facts no matter the details, accept it and get over it, it´s a 150 years ago!

Stop sounding like a whiny 5 year old brat.

Wow, a BA? Then you go tell all those PhD historians they've got everything wrong!

Setting aside the ridiculous debate over who started the war (it was the South)... let's pretend it was actually the North.

Do you think that would have been a bad thing? Are you upset that an explicitly White Supremacist state with the stated goal of enshrining slavery as the right and proper state of affairs for all times wasn't established on the North American continent? Are you all broken up that all the black people in the South aren't still property?

Because unless the answer to those questions in yes, shouldn't your reaction to thinking the North started the war be "HOORAY FOR THE NORTH!! It's sure a good thing they started that war and prevented that great evil from taking root and growing in strength here in North America. Phew!"

So? What is it? If it's a good thing then your arguing over who started it is irrelevant. Or do you think it's a bad thing we never got to see the rise and spread of a fervently enthusiastic slavery promoting White Supremacist nation?

None of the above. I am just attempting to present a Southern point of view. With respect, it would appear that others are prone to go off using the race thing. Why they would do so is unknown. Respectfully.

Sigh...

Then according to the Southern point of view are they all broken up all their black neighbors aren't still property, booooo that nasty North, if only they hadn't started a war with the Confederacy?

Because otherwise who gives a crap if they think the North started it or not when starting it could only be a good thing?

Repectfully, All I can do is bring to bear different points of view. It is up to the other to determine how and what to learn from such. Sometimes thinking outside the established box is non comfortable.

Which brings me to the important stuff. Who does know the difference between "Oven Tempered" vs "Quilted Strength" aluminum foil used for the aforementioned tin foil hat group? This is vital knowledge. :)

Well apparently not, since I just asked you what the point of view you were attempting to present to us had to say on the matter and you have now dodged that rather straightforward question I asked twice instead of answering it
