Hi I was wondering why Steampunk settings and fiction is based on the British Empire, I would like to see one based on the Holy Roman Empire and the Imperial Hapsburg family that ruled over.
One were the Holy Roman Empire didn't end, one were they are the strongest German nation, no Imperial Germany. LW |

Not all of it is. There is a significant amount of Steampunk derived from the American Western traditions, but Steampunk by its very nature requires an Industrial Revolution breakpoint from real-world history. Since the Industrial Revolution began in England, that's where Steampunk starts as well. .

I am not very fond of Steampunk in general, but I can recommend the webcomic Girl Genius, which is set in Central Europe (albeit the heroine is currently in Paris enroute to London). No reference to the HRE, but you have an "Empire" of sorts and a large number of small, squabbling states in what we would call Germany.

I can second the recommendation. Agatha's current location does remind me that a lot of Steampunk picks up where Jules Verne left off -- i.e. extrapolations on the French Industrial Revolution. .

Then you need to start with the Industrial Revolution reaching the HRE and the changes that wrought. Then extrapolate from there. Unfortunately, the HRE wasn't known for its Industrial strength and/or innovation, so you're still going to be working with (against?) standard Steampunk based on anglophone technology. You need to find a prominent "Hero Of The Industrial Revolution" in the history of the HRE and extrapolate from there for unique HRE steampunk-tech .

Now I know that the HRH wasn't known for being inventive more for there Baroqueness specially before 1848, since one of the ranks of the HRE was Kaiser of the Germanies I've included German inventions such as,
Diesel, Zeps, Krup, you get the picture. LW |
