Hi OrlaqndoNative,

Actually, the Temple Guard reports to Allayn Magwair, and a little study of how Mussolini was arrested and other coups etc might be in order.

Perhaps the Grand Vicar could order such a thing, but I doubt it would actually be carried out. Even so, Traynir would have to have him order it, and I doubt he has the spine to do so.

There really doesn't seem to be an "impeachment" mechanism in the Church's hierarchy. As long as you don't p*ss off the Inquisition, you can pretty much do whatever you want, and there's little anyone can (or will) do about it.

Wellll... the Temple Guard in and around the Temple does report to Magwair, but you may need to tell them that. The consequences for them for disobeying a Schulerite not in their chain of command versus a Temple Guard officer who is will be worse, graphically worse, and that's in their heads all the time.

Hi JeffEngel,

Quite true.

But we also have textev that many Temple Guard officers don't trust or are angry at the inquisitors for many reasons, so that some here have previously wondered where they fit in Rhobair's plans to overthrow Clyntahn, and/or the rest of the then Go3, which we may finally see this winter, when everything else has gone to crap on the Go4.

That Go4 meeting will also be fun if not vastly entertaining to read. 8-)

Then take it and leave."

Mind you, should Major Phandys lose an eye and/or a hand in some action then I think it would be very wise to keep a very close eye on the contents of any briefcase he takes into any meeting of the Go4, especially if Clyntahn/Rayno will be there first.

From the point of view of the Vicarate in Zion, it *is* a sideshow. Given the pace of events in the story and the fact that we likely only have 1-2 more books before the current situation gets resolved and we jump 20 years, I can't see any direct military way that Clinton gets removed by Our Heroes... the battlefield is still too vast and there are too many pieces between the Charisian armies and the Temple. They don't have to push all the way to Zion to remove Clinton, though. They just have to keep the pressure up long enough for the economics to bring him down. His power will erode with the treasury... history shows that terror only works as long as you can afford it.

I'd love to see Rhobair show up to one of the meetings with a dagger, or perhaps a new model revolver. I don't recall there ever being temple guards present in the Go4 meetings. That might wind up being too close to the end of AoV, though, so probably not.

More likely it would be Magware with the revolver up his sleeve. Rhobair is the kinder gentler one and it would take a lot to push him over the edge, however, he has become the best friend that Magware has and there could be a scene where the three are discussing the cash flow where Clynthn states that he is putting Rhobair to the question about his loyality to the jihad and Bang!

Just a thought :?:
