"Give us those numbers under the Duke’s command, and that bastard Kaitswyrth’ll never know what hit him, Your Eminence. Earl High Mount’ll go north, around the marshes, send a column for Marylys, and take his main body straight for Aivahnstyn. At the same time, Duke Eastshare’ll go south and flank Tyrath hard enough to pin Kaitswyrth’s right. And while they do that, Your Eminence, happen the Army of the Daivyn will smash right through the bastards’ front and the three of us’ll do to the Army of Glacierheart what Duke Eastshare and Earl High Mount did to the Army of Shiloh.”

One consequence of these three armies heading north to pound on Kaitswyrth, is that Alvaharez route to Alykburg will be a lot clearer than he might have expected.

It will be interesting to see if that happens, if Alvaharez will be allowed to go home via the Dairynth-Alkburg canal, or wether he will be reinforced and sent back to help Kaitswyrth, in which case we would have RFC's own 'battle of the 5 armies' [nod to Tolkien] :-)

Very good pun, Sir.

There are some of us (like me :D ) that do not decode car license plates very well and need things spelled out because we are "bears of very little brains" (from Winnie the Pooh).

Ganieda in the King Arthur legends is the half sister of Merlin.

Cysgodol is Welsh for shadow.

Outstanding snippet. Unrestrained thanks, oh great Shambles With Kale!
According to my compulsive/obsessive typesetting, we're up to about 152 pages of HFQ now! It's starting to feel like a real book.

By all means, disagree, without disagreement we all find ourselves in an echo chamber. Those are so dull, Lyonheart.

I will argue with your logic in so far as Garvai and Windshare will tag along with the Haarahld's. I suspect you are right and the ICN will rely the Imperial Marines from Corsiande to manage the fighting initially. The Corisandian troops are not prepared yet. They can train on the islands in the Gulf of Dohlar. No, they won't be ready until quite a bit later in the year. I suspect they are an insurance policy or perhaps another club.

Prognosticate, shall I? Well, I don't mind if I do.

First a question: how tall is Ahlvyn Khapahr? I seem to recall his being short....or was that I seem to wish he was quite short or very tall. The younger sister of shadows might have always deeply respected Thirsk. If not that then the fact Nimue Chwaeriau is out and about in her very unsuspicious stature makes me less confident that Thirsk's demise is truly fatal.

Ahlvarez is allowed to escape and he has had a burning hatred for the Desnarii seared into his psyche. The man has a tendency towards bigotry and his experiences of losing the troops that he has come to hold dear in the way Harless forced him to do it might well be sufficient to direct his core tendency Southward.

Also, it is enough that both Ahlvarez and Thirsk have more respect for their enemies than they do some or all of their allies. Ahlvarez had no qualms about leaving his wounded in the care of the ICA, eh? Surrendering under acceptable terms to enemies one can respect is tolerable, I would think.

Setting all this up will take time. By the time the KH VIIs arrive, secure the islands the ICN desires as forward naval bases, allows Windshare and Garvai to get their troops up to speed and Hektor has some fun directing the King Haarahld's main guns crushing a few coastal fortresses to include the one in Gorath; Thirsk and Ahlvarez will have their ducks in a row.

The strategy for Dohlar appears to focus on preventing a complete breakdown of order. The Allies need to have someone they can work with secure the legitimate authority of the country. Not sure what the succession after King Rahnahld looks like, but whether he is kept or not rather depends on how well he can be expected to work with whatever group the Allies are comfortable with in charge.

Now let's see how this all works out.

Hi PeterZ,

You know how long I've been suggesting that Thirsk will be a regent for one of Rahnyld IV's grandsons, along with Ahlverez, and I hope Duke Fern also survives.

Claw Island is rather small for the Corisandans to fully train on, especially its lack of vegetation for camouflage training, NTM terrain variation etc.

Ahlvyn Kapahr is rather tall, only ~3-4 inches less than Merlin, but your suggestion that Nimue substituted for for Thirsk to explain his execution scene is truly excellent!

It will take time as I posted for them to get their 'pigs and ducks all in a row', but I see an accommodation as the alliance armies proceed west past Dohlar cutting the temple's land communications south with Dohlar, Silkiah NTM all of Howard at Dairnyth, rather than invading if the negotiations go well.

Your suggestion about Ahlverez venting his spleen on the Desnari is intriguing [How exactly? Invading Hankey?], but that may have to be in a later book.

L
