DB = Dispatch Boat. Smallest (and usually fastest) hyper-capable ship, about 10-20 crew, minimally (if at all) armed.

Just for the record (and so others can correct my misunderstandings):

LAC--Light Assault Craft
FG--Frigate
DD--Destroyer
LC--Light Cruiser
CA--Cruiser, Attack (mostly called a Heavy Cruiser
BC--Battlecruiser
BC(P)--Battlecruiser (Pod-carrying) Agamennons (sp)
BC(L)--Battlecruiser (Large) Nike's
BB--Battleship
DN--Dreadnought
CLAC-Carrier, Light Assault Craft
SD--Superdreadnought
SD(P)--Superdreadnought (Pod-carrying)

ah, Disbatch boat. obvious really now that i know. I never given DBs much thought simply because if they don't even care to name then then like old LACs they are kind of invisible.

always there in the background, but rarely calling any attention to themselves

Nit picking time. A LAC is a Light Attack Craft and a CLAC is a Carrier, Light Attack Craft. Also a Light Cruiser is abbreviated as CL.

Frigate can also be abbreviated as FF. Note that BC(L) is used only on the forum, the RMN in the books refers to the new BC Nike-class as battlecruisers.

Running the numbers and under the right circumstances you can play tag and win against a division of SD's.

I'm not sure a Trojan-class would be permitted Mk 16 pods. Too easy to disable one, and let your enemies see all your latest goodies.

Not to mention, it's almost an insult to any Captain of the List, to be a skipper on a Trojan. When Honor deployed with Alice Truman, Alice had just made list, and Honor felt it was an insult until she was told that Alice volunteered upon learning Honor would be the squadron CO.

Edit: came out a bit blunt, meant it more of a 'really? one of those old things??!?"

I was thinking of counter-commerce warfare. OK, also the odd pirate.
If the SLN is going to start raiding, why not give them a target.
I'm pretty sure that there is a Manty Admiral who has mentioned at least once that you shouldn't be sure what you think you see is what is really there.

Not with Mk-16 pods you can't.

SLN SD's don't have Manticore or Haven capabilities.

Truman did exercise tactical command, during the defense of Second Hancock. It was her battle plan, involving her LACs, sent in ahead to pick off the Havenite battleship missile pods, that enabled the other Manticoran admiral (who I think out ranked her) to attack.

Granted it's small potatoes to all the limelight Terekhov, Oversteegen, Honor, and some others have gotten, but she's still exercised tactical authority in more than just a few paragraphs.

Baby steps right, so she's had her cherry command battle... now we just need to wait for "The Big One", hopefully involving either a few task groups of SLN raiders, or a great big MAlign Lenny Det strike.

Keep in mind, the Fifth Space lord owes you... so I'm with exiledtoIA, because what we're both talking about is mil-spec version like a People's Navy Q- Ships, updated to the latest greatest, not a Trojan class.

It would need the control links and tactical updated, but consider how many flat-pack pods could be racked plus maybe stacked in a set of bays Rozak style. Then just haul freight to keep folks from guessing what was up with the rest of that funky old looking "freighter".

CA originally meant "Armored Cruiser" when the USN started using the Hull Type Code -Number identification system. To distinguish (even earlier) from "Protected Cruisers," which depended on part of the coal load to protect the machinery spaces. Armored Cruisers used Steel for protection.

Would it be crossing Universes to ask if you know the secret of steel?

While I'm being pedantic, the Lexington class battlecuisers would have been assigned the type code "CC". which is in keeping with the "doubled first letter" (DD, BB, FF, SS) design of the type code system. The Alaska class were assigned the type code "CB" which supposedly stood for "Large Cruiser," but looks suspiciously like "Battle Cruiser." But BuShips swears it's not.

We've also seen the a corvette or two in the honorverse; but I can't recall people settling on an abbreviation for them
