But I think COLAC would suit me just fine. I'd have the most polished LACs in the fleet, a bunch of well-trained top-gun aces that has made a name for themselves. A CLAC that is requested everywhere. HMS SWARM.

Our motto is "We hyper in, enemy ships hyper out. We make 'em run like SDs - Scalded Dogs."

I think you have the title wrong, if I'm guessing the position you have in mind correctly. Alice Truman has been a CLAC commander and a flag officer in charge of CLAC's. A COLAC is the commander of a group of LAC's themselves from a given CLAC - Jackie Harmon for Minotaur's first LAC group, for example.

I wouldn't downplay the chances Alice Truman has had, either. She's never been the one in front, never "the Salamander" or "Countess Gold Peak, Scourge of the Verge!". What she has been is someone who's demonstrated consistent moral courage put to the service of her Queen and nation, from the wild rush home from Grayson, to humble work defending Silesian trade with a modified freighter, to risking her career putting her familiarity with naval politics to the salvation of Project Anzio, and lately to making sure that the Salamander always, always has a fleet that works. Like Augustus Khumalo, she's a consistent reminder that being the person to look up to has very little to do with being the person life puts on pedestals.

so as min there must 25 floating about the galaxy somewhere.

Nope, 10th Fleet only has 2 BatCruRon's the 106th CO ADM Gold Peak and 108th RADM Oversteegen.

Yep, I'm a bit confused on the terminology. Well, shouldn't there be a military designation for Truman's post, like say COCLAC.

Oh, Truman does what she does well, for certain. What has been Alice's problem is her own lack of confidence. She lacked it, though I don't know why or whether it still exists.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

The title for Truman's position is CO.

I'll go mil spec freighter/Q ship, the exact same ship type as i.e. HMAMC Wayfarer but built with military sidewalls, inertial compensator, etc. With all the latest goodies, of course, that is, DDM's with a 16-E, ghost rider drones, etc. But I'd still want about 50% of the cubage for freight bays, etc.

A Q-ship? Dude, you got treecat balls.

But if it has all of those improvements, is it still a Q-ship?

Said it last page, I don't think the Trojans (the military 'class' that Wayfarer was designated as, civilian it's just a Caravan-class) would ever receive the latest stuff. They were basically just test-beds for the upgraded LAC, and hollow-core concept, and they've proven to be functional at their intended role.

They are far too easy to disable, so I can't imagine BuShips to ever sign off on giving them 16-E DDM missiles, and the very latest in LAC upgrades (Shrike-Cs?), they definitely don't need Ghost Rider either.

Perhaps the Havenite style Q-Ships might get modified in a similar manner, because they're true warships with the outer skin of a merchy. Internally, they're far more like battlecruiser/battleship than the Trojan/Caravan's. They'd get seeded into the supply trains that are supplying anti-Solarian forces, after the new Solarian doctrine of raiding starts.

Otherwise, you'd be a skipper of exactly the same Trojan as Honor commanded. Slow, clunky, and with mediocre upgraded LACs that aren't quite Shrikes. Recall that Manticore kept using them, and Saint-Just used those Q-ships as his reasoning for the "super LACs" to not exist, after Second Hancock. I'll track down that quote, but it was during a briefing involving most of the CPS, primarily McQueen/Pierre/Saint-Just, in Ashes of Victory.

I would probably be commanding HMS ShouldBeNamed"ArticOutpost0", an ancient oddball (& victim of multiple gear experiments) "ship" that has been abused by being the gunie pig as well as general purpose bandaid/ductape that has been passed around different services multiple times as well as being lend to territary and maybe secondary members of the Alliance during the Haven Wars.

The reason the ship is still in service is the extensive re-re-re-retrofits it has endured over it's career and (as you might be suspecting) the reason I'm still not booted from the Navy is the amount of skeletons I (am believed to be) in possession of, over every faction of Naval leadership.
Your suspicion that the Navy is using this ancient roll of gum&bailing wire to force people into accepting retirement might have some basis in reality btw :)

And, No. Francis is a well oiled machine compared to my bucket of bolts.

Running the numbers and under the right circumstances you can play tag and win against a division of SD's.

Not with Mk-16 pods you can't.

Mk16-Mod G - that's the newest modification of the "cruiser"-missiles and supposed to be as good as many Wallship-missiles (regarding it's power) at the start of the 1st Havenite War.
