Indeed and we know White Haven planned to have words with one of the Bureaus about not delivering pods to forts after the 2nd battle of Basilisk. By this time, the chap's First Lord and the Bureaus have to listen to him, so odds are good that the terminus may have been covered by pods before the first fort even came online.

IIRC the lynx terminal forts were capable of standing off 200-250 of the RMN's SD's and over 1000 of the SLN's SDs without any outside support.

Once in service. As a collection of spare parts in loose formation, not so much.

As of the moment that Hexapuma went through the junction to begin her tour of duty in Talbott, there were no forts on line. Apparently they were all under construction. Steps for covering the Lyns terminus in depth were not taken until after the battle of Monica.

Right. But we know from SoS, that Monica was way behind schedule regarding the "cloaking" of the BCs. So it is not really unreasonable to assume, that at least 1 fort at the Lynx-Terminus would've been ready (at least ready enough to pound a dozen Battlecruisers or so) at the time Monica would've come calling.

Something that has not been brought up:

Can the SLN BC cruiser grade missiles actually take down the Hercules SD? No, barely even penetrate or not penetration at all of the SD's sidewall. Would end up in a graser duel. At which point all 14 BC's are so much toast against the single SD. As was seen in SVW against a DN and once again in FiE against BB's. BB's are far better than pipsqueek BC's...

Do remember that David's coached argument in favor of a squadron of BC's taking down an SD was their missile totals. In this example he was thinking of RMN missiles. SLN laser head throughput is ~.~.~..... in comparison.

So, best bet would be for the 14 BC's to not attack the SD at all. Pound the planets and other light ships and wait for FF to show up. Of course the Hercules is then free to take out the junction pods with proximity kills. So, toasted.

It was never about Monica taking/holding quadrant unless one is delusional. It was sending for help, OFS, FF in time to "settle" the situation.

Not quite, In SVW it was a DN vs BC's.

But 14 BC's vs a over the hill SD, not a chance Hercules would be violently installing portholes in all those BC's. It would probably be analogous of fourth Yeltsen

No, we were talking about a SLN SD vs BCs with SDMs.

Also, in SVW it was 4 vs 1 and already within energy range before the Peep BC's could even get off a shot. 14:1 at battle ranges would likely result in the Samothrace class SD's utter destruction.

But HMS Hercules would not have been going in alone. Along with whatever ships were still picketing Lynx plus the pods from the ammo ship, Terekhov and Khumalo would have gathered enough RMN ships to thoroughly trash the Monican ships and take the terminus back rather quickly.
