Oh, duh. Ginger and Scotty -- and I'd never thought of it. Ideal mix. Both as sharp as they come, understand all parts of the jobs, have shared history and losses together, and the whole shebang. She's also sort got that fun edge that would fit well with Iris and Horace, great guns!

Genevive Chin and Van dort? hmm might work, aside from the short story "the Fanatic", Chin has not had a lot of screen time and even then was mostly a Victor Cachat story, to get to know her, so I can't say as I know her well enough to make a real choice for her.

I've always thought that Genevive Chin, who has had more hard luck than any other Havenite (mostly due to running into Hoor Harrington), would fit well with Alan Higgins, who has also had more than his share of bad breaks.

Because they both deserve something good to happen to them.

Strangely, it never occurred to me that Honor and Chin had locked horns before BoMa - Duh!

Yeah, Honor is NOT on Chin's Christmas card list, nor will ever be.

However I can picture a darkly humorous short story about a mixed military Soirée after Filaretta's folly, where nothing goes right for Chin - she's not on the admittance list, She bumps into Honor (of all people) and accidentally gets cocktail sauce on her dress uniform, is the subject of a prank by Nimitz and Co, etc., etc., and ends up isolated at the bar in the corner a couple of empty stools from a sill brooding Higgens and his recently acquired pet Storm Cloud....

I have to disagree. Chin must have extraordinary luck simply to have survived so long - and after losing to Harrington twice. The only luckier Havenite is Tourville, who survived three battles with her(and even won one).

And of course, there's the mystery of how Chin didn't end up a prisoner despite surrendering her vessels.

the Hancock prisoner time? I can't recall how she ended up back in Peep navy at that point, but she was lucky as hell to dodge a pulser dart then for "failing the people".

And BoMa wasn't Chin one of the few who actually managed to get her ship into hyper to run away before Eighth Fleet Apollo missiles started detonating?

Either way, Honor has taken Chin to school (repeatedly), and made her look like an uppity Middy trying to handle something out of her league... and made it look easy. Needless to say, Chin will never truly forgive Honor, even if she grudgingly follows orders.

I'm not sure if Chin's ship managed to hyper out before the missiles started detonating - I think she just got lucky and her ship survived long enough to hyper out.

As to how she managed to be back in PRH service in Fanatic having surrendered in SVW, that's never been resolved by RFC so far as I know. I have two theories:

1) Most of Chin's force surrendered, but a handful of ships (including the flagship) managed to hold of Admiral Danislav's dreadnaughts long enough to get across the hyper limit.

2) Eric Flint made a mistake when writing Fanatic and forgot that the last we heard of Admiral Chin was her surrender at Hancock, RFC and Baen's editors didn't catch it before publication and it's too late to retcon it now.
