just looked at it in Chrome, and it's fine.

ditto for Firefox; decided to try it as well, since i had it open

Have you been browsing Chinese sites??!!

Firefox works for me fine right now even after clearing my cache. It is a very large file and that may be causing a problem. Try a different browser or just download the file and use a jpeg viewer.

I was looking at the maps in MTAT and thought that the legend indicating Temple loyalist vs. Siddermarkian loyalist were reversed.

New maps are in the works, but both parts of the map-supplying equation have been a bit busy, of late.

I'd like to see latitude lines on the overall Safehold map; that is, horizontal lines at +/- 20 degrees. +/- 40 degrees, +/- 60 degrees, and +/- 80 degrees. With those, we'd be able to estimate/calculate distances more accurately.
We don't need longitude lines; we can draw them in ourselves just fine.
As to detail, it would be nice, but we just have to accept and be grateful for what RWC vouchsafes us.

Perhaps we could also get an exact value for the axial tilt, so that we could then get tropic lines as well. We do have the Equator, which is a nice start.

I just took a look at my copy of the MTaT map.

There're a lot of cool features on the mapping software. There're a bunch of 'missing' features that would make it even cooler.

It's not meant to be a cartographic system. More of a fantasy/gamer's tool for world-building.

I don't think His Weberness would bemoan my commenting upon it at a vague, general level. I mean... it's not like he'd kill me, or anything, right?

There are several hundred layers defined. Not all of them are on in the representation you've seen. Some of them seem to represent less-well-done early let's-learn-how-to-do-this types of not as well planned layers. There was a learning curve, no doubt.

One interesting, but deliberately turned-off layer is the global semaphore layer.

The map does seem to have a bit of a noticeable discontinuity between the extreme eastern & western edges - they don't quite line up completely. It shows up most noticeably when viewing the map projected on a globe.

While there is what's labelled as a latitude layer, which was also off, I don't actually see where it renders when I turn it back on. (A quick recheck shows it to be some minor labeling for specific latitude data.)

There is also nothing that I've seen specifying the axial extents north or south.

0, 0 for the map seems to be defined as being just south of the shoals off the coast of Emerald, out in the Charis Sea. Whether that is intended to be the 0, 0 point for the Temple's maps, I have no idea, but given the back-water nature of Charis Island, I'd tend to think not. I'd expect the Prime Meridian to run through The Temple of God.

This just gives him more wiggle room when he writes.

Perhaps we could also get an exact value for the axial tilt, so that we could then get tropic lines as well. We do have the Equator, which is a nice start.

I assume you are talking about using those to determine the spherical shape, and thus the distances between points on a sphere.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) that isn't necessary. The distances David cites in the text are not measured on a sphere, but on a flat map which is similar to this one. Measuring distances on this map will better match the distances in the text than trying to figure out longitude and latitudes.

No. I'd just like to know where the tropic lines should be drawn and get a better idea of climate, day length and so on.

We're rather fond of "Oops" when it comes to RFC, be it Shannon Foraker's infamous "Oops" after her single-handed destruction of twenty-four StateSec superdreadnoughts, or RFC's "Oops!" when he inadvertently posted the ENTIRE book of "Storm from the Shadows" instead of the intended next snippet! (Baen then offered to sell the "Oopsie" version of the ebook for $10 as "an early, un-edited, incomplete version" before the official eARC became available.)

I believe that there was some stuff at the beginning of MT&T which said that the tilt of Safehold was eleven degrees more than Earth - so 34.4 degrees. The problem with drawing the tropics is that the extant map doesn't go all the way to the poles, nor does it cover a full 360 degrees at the equator - and we don't know how much is omitted in either case - so you wouldn't be able to draw accurate tropic or polar lines anyway.
