Having frightened the **** out of his good lady and then managed to persuade her into allowing him to go to some obscure do in a remote place.... I feel he is now under orders to rest and be quiet. We unfortunately will have to wait for the next snippet.

Mmmm. I would tend to expect that the ongoing royalties from the books he's already written and published probably "put food on the table" very well. Even though the food prices tend to go up rather than down. A successful writer doesn't always have to *continue* writing to make a living; though some writers didn't reach the actual "successful" stage until after their deaths, in which case the 70 year copyright extension might have helped their *descendants* out. I suspect most successful writers continue writing because they like to, or want to. I doubt Stephen King, for example, really *needs* to write just to support himself and/or family any longer. David may not have written as many books as Stephen, but I'd say a good percentage of the ones he has have done well. "Yield to temptation, it may not pass your way again."

It strikes me that we all worry about him.
I'd just like a note to us - from him - saying how he's doing. |

He usually does that - as a prelude to the snippet he posts. I suppose he could start an ongoing thread about how he's doing; if he just posted status in random threads most folks might not find it. With daily updates, right? Or hourly? Then I suspect he'd really fall behind schedule. "Yield to temptation, it may not pass your way again."

By the evidence of the report from Honor Con last weekend, and his posts on various of these forums a couple of weeks ago, RFC is doing just fine, in the circumstances, which is great. It's obviously just that the snippets are a lot lower priority for him than they are for some of us; to him they are a bit of extra work, to us they are a bright spot in the week. |

MMMeehhh, it's summer. It's hot, he's probably got chores, maybe he's taking a little vacation. Kicking back on the porch and drinking some lemonade. Goodness knows he's earned it. Let him get his breath back from a busy writing schedule and the cons, and all. Snippet will get posted when it's posted. Heat commin on like tis and all, best to jess tak'er easy and sit back a spell.

Here's hoping that RFC and his family are well, and that the lack of snippets may be related to the latest delay in the publishing schedule and perhaps some much needed R&R for RFC. However...
For the superstitious among us, since it's been 24 days since RFC posted the last snippet, which even by my very patient reckoning is about 10 days past when I check in to see if there's a new one, and since new snippets lead to lots of new discussions in this forum which is getting kinda stale without something new to talk about, I'll bite the bullet and change my tagline. (That was perhaps the longest sentence I've ever posted. Perhaps. But I doubt it!) I do this under duress, since others have noted a correlation with new snippets arriving soon after I change my tagline. So for the good of all, I'll make the ultimate sacrifice and change my current tagline, which I really like: "Oh bother," said Pooh, as he realized that "very little brain" was just a polite euphemism everyone had been using for Down's syndrome." Anyone who's been here for more than a couple of days will probably realize that I'm satirizing RFC's tagline: "Oh, bother!" said Pooh, as Piglet came back from the dead." Fortunately I have a couple of pages of taglines where our favorite bear finds himself in situations in which "Oh bother!" are the first words that come to his notably very little brain. So RFC, here's hoping that you notice that I'm mocking Pooh Bear in a different way, and this leads you to take pity on your long-suffering fans and post a new snippet I'd change taglines more often if the procedure were more straightforward, which might result in more frequent snippets. I really need to write down the steps, since it takes me about 10 minutes to figure out how to do it every time! (Interpret that as a blatant plea to the legendary web designer who built this site, but who may or may not still be around to simplify the process.) Enjoy! "Oh bother", said Pooh as he glanced through the airlock window at the helmet he'd forgotten to wear. |

etc. Thanks Mac, I was about to see if I could find "Breathless Hush", which ALWAYS worked- (well, eventually always worked) in the past. The other thing I considered was to see if Joat to come up with another Ka-Boom. Or we could try a poem.... |

Every snippet's sacred.
Every snippet's good. Every snippet's needed, In our neighbourhood. Every snippet's sacred. Every snippet's great. If a snippet's delayed, The Mob gets desperate. |
