According to the FAQ, linked below, it shows Chisholm with a population of 15,000,000 and Charis ( old Charis ) with a population of 14,000,000.
http://www.davidweber.net/faqs/index/series:6/page:3 ( grab bag 2 of questions ) The problem with that is that is NOT what the books say. In "A Mighty Fortress", chapter II Maikelberg, Duchy of Eastshare, Kingdom of Chisholm... we have BGV talking with Merlin about the merging of the Charisian marines and the Chisholmian army, as well as the two nations. It states that "Old Charis boasted half again the population of Chisholm"... That would give "Charis" a population of 22.5 million, if her population was "half again" the population of Chisholm. |

BTW, it would make a lot more sense for Charis to have had a much larger population than Chisholm. Due to the climate and farming differences and ability, which would lead to a much larger surplus of food. Thereby allowing the population to grow more, and faster.

No one has a comment on a 8.5 million population discrepancy? At the low end, that would still allow for over 500K additional Charisian troops.

Not much to comment on. You're correct, it's a discrepancy. --------------------------------------------

Isilith, if you INSIST that someone replies, I'll take the time to point out that the books are ALWAYS more accurate than the FAQs (especially for detailed trivia such as local population figures) as the publication of each book requires MANY such FAQs to be updated (and it doesn't always happen). The occasional un-updated FAQ is a fact of life in cyberspace. |

Also, they are Frequently Asked Questions, not Correctly Answered Questions.
