Since one of the threads on the Safehold forum meandered into fun RP scene territory I'm opening a thread here. Anyone remembering a fun scene from an RPG which they want to share feel free to post it here
My first one - in a D&D session long, long ago - was a fight breaking out among the PCs on a mountaintop. One cleric got thrown off a high-up ledge. His level wasn't quite high enough to cast a fly spell but he did have a candle of invocation which - while burning - would raise his level high enough. So while falling he fumbled in his pack for the candle and tinder box, hoping to light it before impact. Boy did we laugh hard. He did not make it. |

One of the many funny things that happened during our D&D playing was when our party was looting a tomb.
We had sneaked in while disarming all the traps, and had just opened up the portable hole so we could dump all the loot in it when a particular nasty wight appeared while the door slammed shut. The DM yanked the map from the table and asked us players 'what do you do?' Our wizard quickly teleported home, which left 3 of us. Our other wizard hadn't teleport memorized so he tried to dimension door, and the DM asked "nicely" in what direction and how far. His guesswork where the entrance was seemed to be a bit off so he materialized in the mountain which bounced him into the astral plane where he was lost and had to pay a Deva to guide him home with one of his very precious magic items (while our DM was chuckling evilly). Our gnome illusionist planeshifted to the astral plane himself and had to dodge some interesting random encounters before managing to return home. The fighter was hit a couple of times (can't remember how much he lost but he was less than happy) before managing to put on and use a ring to go into the etheral plane and then proceed to walk out of the tomb. That left me, playing a bard. I told our DM that I would dimension door 230 ft east and 100 ft south. The look of incredulity on the DMs face when he realized that I ended up just outside the entrance was priceless. Having a devious DM means you need to be more devious. --- Jack of all trades and destructive tinkerer. Anyone who have simple solutions for complex problems is a fool. |

ok here is mine:
So in my schools D&D club we were all making new character sheets and about 5 of us finished long before the rest as we had done it before so we decided to do a quick D&D session set in the warhammer 40k universe. So we all chose one role or another space marine an assassin thing or something else. Then we were sitting in our bunker when the tyranids tried to invade the planet. I rolled to identify them and I rolled a 1 so i identified them as SPACE HAMSTERS!!!! after this we fought them a bunch madness ensued and it all ended up in the bowels of our base where we rolled to see what happens and lo and behold we discovered a real hamster which we rolled a 1 in identifying and yep HOLY SHIT ITS A TYRANID!!!! Now i probably failed to convey just how hilarious this was but i assure you that all involved in this campaign were laughing our butts off the whole time the moral of the story is that when you roll a 1 fun stuff happens or you die epicly Now one other story in a different campaign one of our members had lost his weapons so he asked the DM if he could us a FIVER FINGER DEATH PUNCH the dm said sure if you roll a natural 20 and yep he rolled a 20 naturally after that all of the remaining enemies focused on him as you know he just punched this guy and he exploded. Oh one last thing in the same campaign we had an orc sorcerer who only used animate rope and he proclaimed himself the GOD OF ROPE so we all got behind it and did some real nifty tricks and much to the surprise of the DM we ended up getting him like 20+ followers who believed he was the god of rope. Afterwards in our future D&D games we proclaimed that the god of rope was a valid god. |

that story is a classic and has worked its way all the way into popular fiction it is most likely the most famous story ever from the D&D universe. |

In a Call of Cthulhu game our PCs had found a vampire laid out in a graveyard-chapel among wreaths of flowers and such.
We had just staked it when the GM made the pastor appear in the chapel entrance who was of course aghast at the desecration of this corpse. Since the guy was working himself into a tantrum my PC pulled the stake out of the vamp - which promptly sat up. My character immediately put the stake back - which made the vamp lie down again. For some reason this did not seem to pacify the pastor. On the contrary. He seemed even more agitated. So my character pulled the stake out again. Again the vamp promptly sat up - in a pretty bad mood too. My characters quickly pushed the stake back in - but still there was no reasoning with the pastor. Somehow he didn't want to listen. We gave it up and fled. |

Once in a Wing Commander based Mush one of the pilots decides now is a good time to confess that he's in love with another pilot in the hanger right after the three of us have returned from a mission gone very wrong. The Wing Commander walks in just as he is confessing but my character is the only one who notices him and our carrier's primary comm officer is named Murphy. So while the confession is going my guy is basically sitting their in horror praying that Murphy, either law or comm officer, intervenes to no avail.

Ars Magica, setting eastern Europe, a bunch of magi setting up to try to stop the Mongols from getting too far, currently worrying about the advance "scouts" getting closer to them, with unexpectedly heavy magical support of their own, pretty much killing off all the plans available so far.
At least all plans known to the group of players. Youngest player in the group has her maga get up to the top of a mountain, overlooking a lake on one side, and the valley where the enemy troops are on the other side. And then she uses what everyone else thought was a crazy spell she developed long before that, and moves the "lake" from one side of the mountain to the other... The GM was like "eh, ok so the thousands of troops and dozens of shamans are drowned... Riiight...". The player in question had from the very start anticipated where the GM would have them approach from and used the maps he had made to come up with the plan, develop the spell needed using an excuse of how it was just a bit oversized, because it was going to take the same amount of time to create the spell anyway. And then she just annihilated the opposition that the GM thought he had secured so well against anything the PCs were capable of, in barely a moment. All the GMs plans just got thrown out, *pooof*. Her idea of a prank. |
