Who are your top 5 favorite characters in the series?
For me:
1. Nahrmahn. Love him. If anyone can figure a way to beat the G04 with ravaging the mainland, it'll be him.
2. Clyntyn. OK, he's the's bad guy, but he's a very good bad guy.
3. Irys Daikyn. Young, pretty, smart, capable, and ruthless. Don't know if she's gonna go 'good' or 'evil'; depends on how mad at Clyntyn she gets. A giant waiting in the wings.
4. Sharleyan. Love her too. Smart, brave, and took a leap of faith without a magical seijin to catch her.
5. Merlin. In his/her shoes, I couldn't do so well. If it were me, at some point, the assualt shuttle would come out, and Zion would be a smoking puddle on the tundra. That's the wrong thing to do on many levels.

How about Yairley, the captain over a young midshipmen Duke Darcos, and once responsible for a young Caleb. Also Phonda gets a second, and of course Archbishop Staynair who is worthy of a book himself (at least a short story.....DW..please).

Howdy Tasos74 again,

What Siddermark Republic or Protector Greyghor not listed ?

And no Thirsk (Rommel) short story?

What has befallen the fans! :-)

Happy new year to all,
L

I invite you to review the above posts which are of "historical interest".

Favorite Characters seems to be the first topic here.
I salute Mike as the first poster-.

As for me I think I would pick Merlin- not always as himself - but his various alter egos as well, adrenaline junkies all of them.
(Well, maybe it's me that goes cranked whenever he's off on one of his missions.) Anyway, I really like the parts when Merlin's around.

2010, whoa. I wasn't on the forums yet, I think.

I certainly agree with Merlin, although my favorite would be his Abraim version, for his chewing of the scenery and general attitude. Merlin's having way too much fun playing him and I'm having way too much fun reading about it.

Rainos Ahlverez, for being on of a few reasonable characters on enemy side and having underwent quite an impressive character development over the last two books.

And Aivah whatever-she's-called-now, for the sheer audacity of her actions, sharp mind and adding nice espionage angle to the whole story.

Why do I always perversely think of Gorjah, then imagine him looking like Johnny Depp and then try reading the bit where he swears fealty to Charis with that picture in my mind?

Edit: Didn't realize this was a thread necro... Still, it would be interesting to think who was my favorite character 5 years ago...

Duke Eastshare is probably my favorite character at the moment.

The man is awesome, he essentially single handily saves Siddimark. He had plenty of help by highly capable subordinates, but even without SNARCs and all the special intelligence abilities that confers, is able to come up with the best strategy possible to get troops into Siddimark in the absolute nick of time. From there, he proceeds to kick the ever-living crap out of the Go4.

Still without SNARCs he decides to re-position from Glaciarheart to take on the Army of "Justice". And leaves them a smoldering shattered ruin.

A close second would have to be Halcolm Bahrns a truly spectacular captain, who if he isn't given at least one, if not all of the King Haraalds, that is a crime.

I hope I haven't spoilt the scene for everyone with that one but, seriously, I get to enjoy Duchairn more and more as his situation continues to develop.

Hi Wingfield,

There are so many new or more fully developed characters to like and choose from.

For example:

The more we know about Seijin Khody, the more we want to know...

Which is quite a complement to any character.

Then there's Sandaria; some people take time to be sure about things, but then are rock solid forever, like say George Washington, which I think Sandaria may emulate in determination at least, once her doubts are settled.

Aivah always [or Nynian as I prefer].

Sharleyan of course, I think she's coming to Siddarmark soon, even if Cayleb fears for her life more than his.

Princess Olivia doesn't get enough time in print, but she's the queen mother inside the inner circle, with maturity, faith, and love and insights from probable discussions with Maikel, NTM better ways to handle kids and teenagers in particular.

Queen Mother Alahnah needs more print time, since Cayleb needs a motherly hug from time to time.

Princess Irys may do something culturally stunning before she gets too nailed down by her pregnancy.

For male characters; Merlin of course, Cayleb can be very entertaining, Greyghor and the Siddarmark council when Merlin needs help reigning Cayleb in etc, Maikel's calm spiritual confidence hopefully isn't too boring for too many fans or the Tor editors, while more about Nahrmahn enjoying his second life is so delightful.

BGV and the ICA including Eastshare and Symkyn are always worthy of careful consideration when they appear.

So I guess I pretty much like 'em all. ;)
