svenhauke raises a valid point. Perhaps only the presentation was a little bit rough. Maybe. It deserves a good response. Here goes. Perhaps the good old USA reached its principit (sp?) high water around the year 1900. We may have had our time in the sun?

This means times were the best overall then and since then things have been gettting politically, ethically, financialy (sp?) and morally worse. My opinions only. Our Federal Government is out of control. We have a one party power block system. Who controls it?

Our rule of law has been corrupted. There are too many Federal agencies who write regulatory regulations that nobody voted upon that have the force of law backed up by lethal force of arms.

Some illegal Federal agencies even have their own court systems. The Tax People the IRS and a interior land agency the Department of the Interior even have their own courts and enforcment powers.

Over one half of a persons income goes to some sort of tax. We no longer have private property rights or ownership in the USA. The government controls it. This includes cars and private land.

You are required to Kow Tow, (bow or kneel) to government in every aspect of activities of daily living. Even to the point of where you can place your toilet bowl in the bathroom. Yep. Sad

Your car does not belong to you. You waived ownership when you licensed the car. The State owns it. If you do not pay your State or local property taxes, the state takes it from you.

Our President can and has signed many death warrants. This is nothing new. Our first president did it also. The dark side of government. We are at fault because we do nothing about it.

Most are not even aware of all this stuff even happening. We as Americans have had it too good for too long and we have forgotten our nations bloody, hard earned roots. We have become too fat.

Too many people vote. They also vote their own self interest. The nation can not survive this much longer. Something given freely and not earned has no value. Enough for now if believe?

There is a cure? Become politically involved and vote for good people. If or not that will happen is not known. I for one only give our nation about another 30-50 years. Very sad indeed.

Connections with the Sollie population? I for one think it is very similiar. Perhaps Mr. Weber was trying to tell us something. We think we know what will happen to the Solarian League.

HB of CJ (old coot) :( :( tomorrow is my 68th birthday. Never thought I would see all of this. No speeell chzk

Difference between an optomist and a pessimist. I believe that most western societies are much better now than 1900.
In our case we now have universal health care, a welfare net to ensure no one starves, protection of minority rights, racism is banned, workers have legal rights, access to guns is controlled, universal voting for all adults (not just rich white males), and women can participate fully.
From RFC the curse of big business having too much power still remains in the Honorverse, otherwise things are good there as now for most citizens.

Happy birthday tomorrow you Old Coot.

Ol' De Tocqueville was right when he visited in the 1830s the republic would survive only as long as politicians could not bribe the electorate with their own money.

Some problems the founders neglected to protect us from. Unfunded mandates requiring the State, local or citizen to pay for things. Pass this law or lose your federal funding. Exempting anyone from the law mostly the government. Ifen it's good enough for the goose it should be good enough for the gander. The Federal Reserve coining money from thin air. Loss of any control on immigration.

Thus we get a government based on lies, extortion, and spending our grandchildren into the poor house.

Well that's my take feal free to disagree,

Cheers

This is really strange. Until right now, I have never even recognized the Political Subforum of the Free Range Section. How about that. My eyes and brain simply did not see it. No idea why either.

Yep, my rant post probably belongs in the Political Section. Moderators; move it over there if you want to. I think that is where it belongs. Sorry for my tunnel vision. Yikes! Very strange indeed.

Daryl; I do not know if you are being serious or funny. Everything you mention about Australia would to me be very bad, not good. Sounds like socialism which to me is very bad. HB of CJ old coot

Wow, yeah, Australia does sound like a horrible dystopia!

I mean, what are we coming to when people don't have to worry about trivial health issues?
Or if they can just not worry about falling into too deep a hole just because they lost their job?
Or if racists can suffer consequences for being idiotic shitheels?
And, horror of horrors, workers having rights! Everything's sure going to shit now!
Gun control! Does the Oz government WANT their people to be helpless when the zombie 'roos attack?

Yeah, I think you have to do a better job defining why any of that is actually bad.

HB, believe it or not but I am serious, and not in the least trolling. I've been curious for a long time about the mind set of the US right, and had many discussions on these forums about the profound differences between the rest of developed western societies, and those like yours.
As to economic efficiency we and others like scandanavia, New Zealand, etc came out of the GFC much better than the US. No one in our societies need fear - dying from lack of free medical care, murder by gun, starvation due to no welfare net, having to beg for tips to supplement a wage that is too low to live on, or being bullied by big business. We all have much lower incidents of people in jail.
Your system suits you and works, but to us seems a bit harsh to those at the bottom. Totalitarianism is to be hated but democratic socialism is ok for us.
When a waiter is getting $30 an hour he would be insulted if you offered him some change like a beggar.

Well, i'm not the american, of course, so my position is very IMHO, but... I think, the main reason for a lot of problems i stagnant and (as i could observe from Russia) corrupt two-praty systems, that dominated the american politics far too long. Republicans-Democrats, Republicans-Democrats, no one else since 1853.

It's simply too long. Both parties became too rigid, too corrupt and they are completely against any other then them to enter desision-making. They are ineffective.

So, for my point of view, the best to do is to ged rid of the Republican and Democratic party both. At least, make them not the monsters they are now. Reduce their power to suppress lesser political organisations. And things may go better.

P.S. By the way, maybe you should try the communists in charge for a while? They made a pretty good job of making Russia the second world superpower from the ruins, after all! :) Ask Castro for help, for example.

Since this corrupt state of affairs is true for almost every nation in existence, the obvious solution is to limit how much a corrupt government can actually accomplish. Communism and socialism would appear to expand what governments can accomplish and hence take advantage of in their corruption.
