From the Barnes and Noble HFQ page.
"To all these ends, Merlyn Athrawes has been everywhere, under multiple disguises and wielding hidden powers. The secret of who and what he is has been closely held. But a new player has arrived, one who knows many secrets-including Merlyn's own." Another of Pei Shan-wei's arrows? |

My vote is for Aivah. I think what is being referred to is that initial coversation at the beginning of the book.

Aivah, but I wouldn't bet anyone's paycheck on anything RFC writes. We have considerable textev to prove he is a diabolically clever man.

I think it is some one else entirely, a completely new player. I think, as far as Merlin and Nimue go, we are in for fun fun fun

It might be someone completely new as Keith suggests.
However, remember that the little tidbit we are discussing doesn't come from one of our usual sourses, such as textev, the pearls or an RFC post. It comes from the advertising blip encouraging us to pre-order the book. I doubt that RFC himself wrote it. It was probably written by one of the publishers advertising people who may or may not be thoroughly familiar with the series or even the book. So what does this mean? First, it means that it's highly improbable that it is RFC trying to trick his loyal minions here on the forums. So who might the new player be? My guess is Aivah, although it's really not accurate to suggest she is new. She certainly was on to some of Merlin's secrets, however. That much the blip had right. This looks to me like the sort of thing we would get from an ad copy writer who got just far enough into the book to write his blip before he moved on to whatever else had to be done that day. I still vote for Nimue - BUT as Don points out -It's not Runsfor who wrote the blip---- So... we'll never know unless we can get said advertising person to tell us which NEW PLAYER he's talking about. |

I am re-reading HFAF and notice that when Father Paityr was discussing the Schuler legacy, he also mentioned that while the key and stone's continued existence was a Wyllsyn secret his father had thought that there was someone else who was aware of their continued existence, although they did not know who. (HFAF, hb - pg. 183) This leads me to believe that it would also be possible for that person to be aware of other things as well. --
