What uses can we put the fab unit too? | |

Hi I was just recalling how they mentioned several times that they are taxiing OWLs ability to monitor data and I just thought why don't they have the fab unit pump out some more data cores as if OWL uses a similar design to modern supercomputers it should not be too hard to make some addition processors and hook them up to OWL as that would allow them to expand OWLs ability to manage all of the sensor data that they are picking up and generally be a good thing.
So what other ideas do you all have for the fab unit to crank out that would be useful to their current situation? |

Making "servitors" apparently. Which from the sound of things sound like larger, combat oriented versions of the SNARCs. OTOH, if you actually want to hide things from the Safeholdian public, then there's always the bulletproof undies and battlesteel weaponry. |

What if they fake up some religous artifacts? They could seed tem on the main land and allow them to be taken to the temple.
What if they found an armory of seijin, or some other collection of unique items. |

Ummm, maybe I am missing something... but what purpose would there be to fabricate religious artifacts? I don't see how that helps advance the EoC/Inner Circle/Merlin's goals. In fact, that would be counter productive to their goals... as they intend to DESTROY the CoGA belief system. |

Another fab or three or four ...
Autonomos mining bots to go get resources. Really nasty disease tailored to Clyntahn's family DNA but carriable by others. Really powerful laser/graser/phaser to take out the OBS maybe for fitting to the assault shuttle, maybe requiring the help of those other fabs. Several new OWL/Nahrman combos to do accelerated research. Possibly into battle steel eating phage or nanobots. Medical Nanos for a lot more of the important exposed Allied leadership. (If people want to assume that CoC chaplains' prayers are particularly effective ...) A real A1 grade AI, preferably military version, if they know how to make one. The difficulty is not in thinking of things they could make but thinking of things they could currently use. |

#s 1 and 2 are the way to go, but maybe reverse the order since the current fab is running low on some essential base elements. Too much of anything else runs the risk of depleting the current Fab unit. Eventually, something essential will break/wear out/run out, and now that the system is being used so heavily (and essentially), it's loss is a weak link in the chain. I'd also work on backups systems for Owl/Nahrman - hopefully in another location in the event the main cave is discovered/destroyed. Only after I had secure backups in place and a secure supply chain (as well as a progressive growth plan), would I start working on the big ticket items such as ballistic undies for a batalion. ******
RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships." |

well number 1 is not much of an issue as what they need right now is supplies for the current fab unit to make more stuff so they would want to chose option 2 much more than option one. |

Since the current fabrication unit is limited in what it can produce by the materials available to it, some robots of one form or another that can find and deliver the basic commodities needed to create the materials that OWL is running short of should be the first thing on the list.
The next item would be more fabrication units of course. Progress requires that you be able to build the tools that build the tools, and having only one fabber is a major failure point. Then I'd suggest another AI unit (or ten!) to increase OWL's computational abilities, since he's got more and more demands on his memory and processors all the time. Creating one that wasn't intended as a military tactical computer, but rather a research and retrieval computer as mentioned in OAR would be a big help! It might even be able to figure out how to get rid of the OBS without having to capture the Temple, although that part of the story is gonna be lots of fun. Since we all seem to believe that the controls to the Rakurai are in the Temple's basement, RFC will probably put them somewhere else! The list grows infinite after that: ballistic undies and medical nannites for the inner circle, NEATs and longevity treatments for kids born after the Big Reveal, more fabbers, TF consumer goods, space shuttles, spacecraft to mine asteroids, bigger fabbers to create spaceships, etc. etc. etc. I hope the Hamilcar still exists to speed up the process - once Merlin and co. take it away from the archangels who have currently set up residence inside it... "Oh bother", said Pooh as he glanced through the airlock window at the helmet he'd forgotten to wear. |

Battlesteel machine tool bits, grinders and similar. Harder than steel, harder than diamond and they ain't wearing our anytime soon.
