Made my weekend reading this one.
Thanks RFC and glad to hear your health is on the mend; plus the fact your sensible wife is keeping you in line |

I'm inclined to agree with those who say that it was Chihiro who authored the Book of Schueler. He does look increasingly dangerous and psychopathic too. Emerging big bad of the next story arc, anyone?
But why would Schueler leave the message telling about Chihiro's return? If the two of them didn't see eye to eye, wouldn't Schueler warn Wylsyns about it rather than just say it? I'm not trying to claim that Schueler didn't say a thing about it (that would be just a bit of a stretch), but the two quite clearly sat on the opposite sides of political barricade. If it's Chihiro who's returning, then why would Schueler: 1) know about it? 2) tell anyone about it? 3) not treat it as a bad thing? -----------

Now it seems quite probable. If the Schueler actually FEARED the Chichiro return, and wanted to circumvent that, the Key was the effective solution. It's quite probable, that the major file on the Key is the Schueler himself (inactive copy of his personality). And the insertion of the Key into some terminal under the Temple would, probably, meant its re-activation. So.. what would Schueler do then? ------------------------------

I think laughter is considered to be good for guys with shaky tickers which is why I'm impressed at how hard folks are trying to help in RFC's recovery. He's gotta be ROFLing!

Oh, most definitely!
Then why not warn them? He wouldn't even have to say anything about tensions between the loyalists. He could say something along the lines of "in a thousand years, it's possible that one of the Fallen will return in the guise of loyal Archangel, so beware". Instead, he said "we will come back". Either he came to some kind of agreement with Chihiro, or believed his return will be a good thing. Or it's him who's coming back. Or there's something even weirder.
Make Clyntahn the first person to enter planetary orbit without the aid of a shuttle? On a more realistic note, I think he'd try to reform the Church back to its original vision. The Message Schueler, who's the most likely to be the one in the Key, apparently believed in Langhorne's vision. This might mean he'd become some sort of a worthy enemy to Nimue/Merlin. -----------

Because if he said something like that, it may drive his descendants openly against Chichiro-the-returned. And that would have only on consequences; his descendants would be destroyed, and all his plans would be revealed. He warned them about the Archangel's return, that is much more than majority of Safeholdian knew. It's quite probably, that the Key may have some additional instructions to activate in the date of Return. Instructions, that should be followed without hesitation by his descendants.
Well, he would clearly not appreciate the Merlin - he spoiled the almost-perfect social exepiment! It would be quite interesting to have Schueler (well, Langhorne would be even better, but he unlikely to return) debating with Merlin about "was the doctrine actually crumbling by natural means, or it would work fine without someone, who sticks his metal nose everything?" ------------------------------

Well for what its worth. I am going to have to drive a WHOLE 30 minutes and also convince my wife that I need to spend money. All this so that I can sit at the knee of the fount of all knowledge of Safehold and try to convince said fount that I will not tell a sole what happens next. All this because I just found out that "David" is in town and I can watch him from afar.
Question: Should I take a large rubber hammer with me for Sharon to keep said fount in line????? So much for paying attention to the important things in life. Singswithloudvoice Not well but very loud. |

Glad to hear you're feeling better RFC! May that trend continue for many years to come.
I for one have no idea what the real story is with Khody and Schueler. One thing I am fairly confident about is that we're all wrong with our guesses. For as much as we know now, it's still a small enough amount that a few new facts could radically change things. Not that RFC would do such a thing, but you know. |

To paraphrase Merlin - oh, to be a fly on the wall of the room they talked in! Kingdom for a flashback!
I didn't think about it this way. You're right. If there was one person who knew how unlikely victory would be, it was probably him. I wonder what "all his plans" are. His own return seems likely.
That would certainly be a discussion worth reading. I wonder what the setup for it could be - civil discussion over SNARCs? One of them taken prisoner by another? The two reluctantly teaming up against Chihiro? -----------
