Honor seems at the point of making high-level contacts among the galaxy's leaders. A likely story angle would see her meeting directly with Gustav XI next, perhaps an exploration of Andermani intents re: The Alignment. As Honor is so larger-than-life, mightn't there be a way to give her a covert mission perhaps, taking her away from her usual straight charger methods. Maybe to straighten out a problem with Andermani efforts against the Alignment In some fashion. Gustav has been a backgrounder character so far, interesting but remote. He's worth a closer look.

The IAN and the Andermani are going to be about as 'neutral' as the US and the USN was on the 'Neutrality Patrol' during 1941. |

I don't see a four-star admiral doing a 'covert mission'; she's a bit beyond that. Hence the development of younger characters. The Andies are neutral in the war against the League; they are far from neutral in the war against the Malign. Of course, in practice, there's a certain amount of overlap between them. ----
Imagined conversation: Admiral [noting yet another Manty tech surprise]: XO, what's the budget for the ONI? Vice Admiral: I don't recall exactly, sir. Several billion quatloos. Admiral: ... What do you suppose they did with all that money? |

Chien Liu has already expressed his confidence in Honor and the Andies have noted an exemption to their weapons clause in the presence of the imperial family. Perhaps a visit after the TreeCats have arrived as additional security for the Andies. It WOULD be a good interview. Perhaps either an anthology story or a chapter in a mainline book. Well, covert mission is perhaps not the best description, but not all missions to or for a galactic leader need be an open effort. Defeating the Alignment could well require Honor 'out sneak' them. Rebels within, on Darius, etc? A galactic doublecross? The ultimate 'surprise'...

In the discussion between Chien L and Honor before his interview with Elizabeth, it seems pretty clear that the GA wants to break the Andies off from the anti-Sollie alliance to pursue other options against the Malign. There has already been speculation on this board that the "two dozen of the wall" making their Alpha Transition at the end of CoG are not Mike's, but ... Chien Lu's.
Honor's conversation with Anton sets us up to expect it to be Mike. But she is operating outside of the Manticoran command loop. She will definitely be asynchronous to what ever the IAN is doing. Could Mike drop into Mesa only to have Chien Lu ask, "What took you so long?" |

IIRC, there aren't any treecats going to New Berlin. .

Give it time. The Treecat Conspiracy will get its claws into the Andermani soon enough. |

The Andermani are not neutral towards Mesa/Malign - the Andermani are going to be actively going after Mesa/the Alignment. The Andermani are officially neutral with respect to the Solarian League. Although they're biased in Manticore's favor. This was agreed upon, if somewhat unofficially, to allow the Andermani to go after Mesa, while Manticore swatted the SLN. The Andermani are going after Mesa/MAlign for mutiple reasons, 1) the nano-control assassination attempt on the Andermani Crown Prince and his family, 2) the MAlign driving the war, and other unsavory/criminal activities they support including both slavery and piracy, 3) since they're probably on the target list, preemptive defense. Oh, and the general principle that anybody who attempts to manipulate all of civilization for their own benefit with the desire to take over is somebody you should probably shoot repeatedly until thoroughly dead. |
