Ancient coins had a powerful propaganda value where emperors could put there image or message across the world.

For example:

"The imagery on coins took a turn towards propaganda when Julius Caesar used his own profile on his coins, an opportunity not missed by Brutus who similarly used his own image on one side of his coins and on the other side two daggers symbolising his role in the assassination of Caesar. Augustus, naturally, followed suit but he also reformed the denominations of smaller coins and his new system would form the basis of Roman coinage for the next three centuries." http://www.ancient.eu/Roman_Coinage/

And in relation to US currency in a way of fighting back against Communist atheism US currency in the early cold war added the phrase "In God We Trust."

Charis has the potential to mint BILLIONS of coins in the next 20 years if it wished. so what sort of religious or political message should it's coins carry out to the world?

Here is a start:

1. Image of Arch bishop Maikel and the words "God is Love"

2. Image of the Emperor "Freedom Tolerance and Prosperity for all"

3. Others?

How about an image of some simplified locomotive or steam ship? In the next years those two are likely to be the most visible (and/or awe-inspiring) symbols of progress.

As to any text, something along the lines of "Bravely to the future" or "We go forward" (the latter sounds kind of like some company slogan, though... :? )

I suspect there will be at least one with the image of Armageddon Reef and the words "Here We Stand."

According to Princeton history prof, Kevin Kruse, this had little or nothing to do with this. His book, One Nation Under Godpaints a very different picture of us becoming a "christian" nation. According to the professor, the whole move to connect capitalism and christianity was an effort, very well funded of course, by manufacturers and business leaders to combat the effects of Roosevelt's New Deal.

The "under god" thing was proposed by the Knights of Columbus. I was in the 6th grade when we had to learn the new pledge of allegiance. For a couple weeks one or more of us would fall back into the old Pledge drone and forget to put in the new words. This never failed to send the class into gales of titters. The first couple times, Mr Walsh, had us start over with an admonition to "This time, try to remember the words". He quickly gave up and didn't even bother with a restart.

First: "Don't believe everything you read in a book."

Second: The book might be accurate as far as it goes,
and yet, could that "well-funded effort" possibly have
worked in the USA, without the opposition to
Atheistic Communism?

"In God We Trust" on the currency, "under God" in the
Pledge, both in Eisenhower's first term, after getting
by without them for about 175 years!

Out of sheer curiosity, as a non-American, may I ask - do people of different faiths, such as Muslim or Buddhist, have to pledge "under God" as well?

And more on-topic: maybe there could be some coins with, let's say, victorious Charisian soldier or sailor and names and dates of some battles of the current war? Maybe not as a regular currency, but some kind of commemorative "special edition"?

Commemorative coins are one thing, and I agree that there would be plenty of opportunities for propaganda of this nature. However, what interests me is the format of standard currency.

We know that the basic unit of Charisian currency is the silver mark. I don't recall too many other references to coins, other than the silver tenth-mark piece given to the barmaid by the Rakurai bomber in Tellesberg in HFAF. The barmaid was overawed by the amount of the tip.

Other text mentions coins being tossed down, without further detail. From all this I assume that hundredth-mark coins were a basic unit, with perhaps twentieth-mark and quarter or half mark coins as well.

[EDIT: There is a reference to hundredth-marks in BSRA, June 892, Ch III, p121 of the PB edition]

Being a kingdom and then an empire, the coins of Charis would probably follow the British and Roman examples, with the head of the sovereign(s) on the reverse. That would now mean the images of Cayleb and Sharleyan on the coinage.

The obverse of the coins would most likely bear standard images, such as a galleon under full sail, a Kraken, the Doomwhale of Chisholm, the imperial coat of arms, perhaps a Sceptre of Langhorne, an image of the Writ, and so on. I agree that the EoC would have a motto such as "Here We Stand" on the coins.

I would have thought a Shintoist, Hindu or Sikh would have bigger issues (One nation under Gods (insert deity of choice....) (a Muslim would have no issue with one nation under God, and a Buddhist wouldn't care as it would be a distraction in the search for personal enlightenment).
