So, if because it's a Ship of the List, the RMN always has a Nike, and traditionally it's the standard-bearer for the battle cruiser class... CA-286 is completely obsolete by PD 1922 standards...
So, where's Ship of the List, HMS Fearless III? is it a Sag-C? Not on anyone's radar? or just keep it with CA-286, retired for honorary purposes like HMS Courageous, or... I think we should let Honor, Tremaine, Sonja, and Foraker get together for a design confab, maybe built just in time for a certain rapidly progressing Grayson-born RMN officer to take command, and do the ship justice. Thoughts? [by the way... tried to look up something like this on previous threads... never came up with an effective enough search!] ---------------------
All my posts are YMMV, IMHO, and welcoming polite discussion, extension, and rebuttal. This is the HonorVerse, after all |

Rather than go into the Sag-C, I would go into a new class like say Sag-D/Fearless class as a joint RMN/GSN CA design with provisions for 5-10 Treecat crewmembers. |

Plus room for a platoon of marines. About 50. They will probably be intregrated into the crew. Gunners? HB

Why only a platoon when the Sag-C has a company. |

The easy way out would be to say that the current Fearless is in Silesia. It's also possible that the second Fearless is still around on some obscure station. She's a Star Knight, and they had Warlock still in service in SoS.

The Star Knight-class Fearless got pretty shot up at Yeltsin. I don't remember if it's said whether or not she was recoverable or not. It's possible that she's still around, but it's equally possible that she died sometime during the first war, in which case, she'd probably be another Star Knight, since the RMN was reluctant to start new classes mid-war. It's also possible that she was replaced sometime between wars, in which case the new Fearless would probably be a Sag-A or Sag-B. It's unlikely that the current Fearless is a Sag-C, as it is unlikely that the Sag-C was in production when (or if) the first Star Knight-class Fearless was in need of replacement. |

The Sag-C has a company of Jarheads? I did not know that. My information was that they had zero. Thus adding the aforementioned 50. Thank you and I stand corrected. A company should be enough?
But ... having said that ... if future events play out according to our eager hopes and expectations, perhaps more prize crew warm bodies might be a good idea? Like very large privateer crews? HB "Their shaved heads were filled with fond eager future delights of share out $amounts$ when finally determined ... and distributed!" Hee hee hee. Not $bad at all$ for only 12 boarding actions! |

Terekov used his Marines on Kornati in SoS. I suspect you are thinking the Roland Class which carries no marines and the reason Kaplan was using a certain Grayson Tac Officer and her Armsman to run the resue op against the Sollies in Shadow of Freedom as well as the SAR ops after the Battle of Spindle.

As BrightSoul said, the Roland has no marines. As far as extra bodies, I think that the next generation of ships will have the same sort of advanced automation and low required crew sizes, but will have the bunks and such for 20-50% additional crew and marines that can be carried for independent cruises or when they're not functioning as part of a fleet, where bodies can be pulled from ships with large crews. |

While you are corect about the RMN's hesitation on launching a new class mid-war, the Edward Saganami (Sag-A) was launched in 1908, after 10 years of redesign. The Sag B was launched in 1917 and the Sag-C in 1920 ******
RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships." |
