I think I am getting OBSessed with the OBS.

The OBS certanly attracting a lot of attention - considering that since the first book she doing exactly nothing at all. ;)

We know the OBS has power generation for protective weaponry, but does it have finite shots from orbit? Would it be possible to make electrical generation, radios etc on deserted islands to exhaust the finite ammunition of the OBS rendering it useless?

Here is some older musings on the OBS

Personally i like either the sand blaster method to deal with the solar arrays or
a bunch of ham radios on weather balloons in at a very high altitude so that
the kinetic strike skips off the atmosphere. do that when the temple falls
and claim its "gods fireworks of joy" or "gods tears at the fall of his temple"

of course if the solar arrays are taken out you would still have to wait for
the handwavium batteries to deplete.

@ Dilandu, English lesson "book she doing" should be either "she is" or the contraction "she's."

I think you really have nothing to apologise for, and I think pokermind simply had a helpful hint in mind when he offered the correction. What you wished to convey was perfectly understandable, and I have to admire you for practising a language not your mother-tongue. I don't think that I would do as well as you if I were trying to communicate in some other language, and, besides, my French is exécrable.

Fully accepting RFC's arguments about "Dad" under the temple and windows of opportunity and potential unknown extra resources, one thing still bothers me.

If Merlin really wanted to, he could accumulate the resources to build weapons to take out at least the launch platforms in the OBS systems, and there hasn't been even a hint of foreshadowing in the books. It might take years to obtain everything, but all the more reason to start early.

I can accept not using them until you're pretty much ready to confront "Dad" anyway, but it seems like a losing proposition to bank on gaining access to a control system that you aren't sure is there or that you can get your hands on.

Far better to have ground batteries or some alternative prepared for quick deployment either for the moment you move on the temple, or if it looks like the situation is going south.

Poker, since when did 'since the first book she is doing nothing' referring to an inanimate system become good English grammar? It should be 'since the first book it has done nothing' if we are going to be picky. But since Dilandu's English is so much better than my Russian, I'm inclined to cut him some slack.

Of course we don't know everything, maybe Merlin ran the numbers and decided that the Beast in the Basement would have woken up before a credible system could have been ready anyway. Maybe, come the day, it will be much easier to build such a system inside the Temple where it will be effectively invulnerable.

But it does seem odd that Merlin is allowing OWL to run down input resources without taking steps to replenish them. However I suppose he might have a few other things on his mind right now!
