I put Spoiler in the title in case we get one in the Snippets.
We know the OBS has power generation for protective weaponry, but does it have finite shots from orbit? Would it be possible to make electrical generation, radios etc on deserted islands to exhaust the finite ammunition of the OBS rendering it useless? This has been suggested several times. I believe we've been told that the OBS has the ability to reload itself. I don't believe we've been told how quickly it can reload. .

In which book or post were we told it could reload? Admittedly it would be fairly straight forward to have a series of robotic systems to pull in new material but would it be full-proof. We assume it is using asteroids (which would make sense) but astronomically speaking asteroid fields require certain parameters to form and remain stable. It is currently thought our asteroid field is more the rarity than the norm. |

A Pearl or Infodump, not in the books. If I could be more precise, I would quote it and/or be more definite. .

In answer to the idea of getting the OBS David wrote the following in the above info-dump:
Two things we know the energy weapons protecting the OBS are solar powered and thus perpetual. However no where did he state the ammunition was limitless it is thus finite. He notes there are reloads that automatically refill the launchers when shots are taken, but these are a finite resource as the OBS is not capturing asteroids and making new ammo. So the question is can the stocks be depleted without insufferable planetary damage? And that question is not answered. Poker CPO Poker Mind and, Mangy Fur the Smart Alick Spacecat.

Hi Pokermind,
Regarding the ammunition supply, we have some textev somewhere that its enough to devastate a half dozen continents, ie all of Safehold's land surface if it decided to do so. So trying to run it out of ammunition might also be a bad idea... L
Any snippet or post from RFC is good if not great!

He also never stated that it wasn't effectively limitless. It depends on the ammunition and the source. While he did say the ammunition wasn't dumb rocks, he didn't say that rocks weren't part of the ammunition nor has any other detail about the OBS been described. I think I am getting OBSessed with the OBS. --
