Anyone got any info on what RFC is currently working on? SoS is definitely in the can, I would imagine The Road to Hell must be also, by this time. So what's next?

In addition to the projects you mention, there is also this *small* series called the "Honorverse." ;) Maybe he is working on the next book for it.

RFC posted his daily schedule here once - he mostly writes during the night when the kids are asleep. Then he sleeps from morning-ish to afternoon-ish. (Although that might have changed.) This led Drak to point out (although now denies it!) that should RFC log onto this site during the afternoon (Eastern Time) that we should immediately tell him to get some sleep!) ;)

When RFC logs on during the night, we simply assume he's taking a well-deserved break from writing to see what new mischief his readers have gotten into...

Don't quote me on the exact sequence, but here's what I believe RFC will be working on for the next year or so...

We DO know that there's a new Multiverse book coming out in early 2016. (I am so excited!) Apparently RFC's former co-writer Linda Evans is having some fairly serious health problems, so he's writing it with Joelle Presby, who has a couple of Honor Harrington stories to her credit. So it's entirely possible that RFC is working on that collaboration right now, since the publication date is less than a year away. To see the cover art for the next novel, look here: The Road to Hell - Baen Books - David Weber and Joelle Presby http://www.daveseeley.com/p78742369/h167D3299#h167d3299 As usual the artist doesn't seem to have read the book, since the dragons use breath weapons, but the cover shows the dragon rider with some sort of grav lance or something. (I'm ducking!)

The next mainline novel in the HH series is probably due after that, since we've been waiting for the Battle of Beowulf for years now. (Silly me, I was expecting it in the next chapter when I unexpectedly arrived at the last page of ART. I screamed!)

After that we'll probably get the Safehold book after HFQ. Probably.

How RFC manages to juggle four series is beyond me - or how he has the imagination to have four viable and quite entertaining series at the same time that range from SF, SF& Fantasy, Fantasy, and SF/Historical Fiction (Safehold) is beyond me! I couldn't come up with a plot for a single novel, let alone half a dozen series and several stand-alone novels.

Between book releases I guess we'll simply have to wait as fast as we can... ;)

"Oh bother", said Pooh as he glanced through the airlock window at the helmet he'd forgotten to wear.

Mostly reasonable speculation McGuiness if tinged with a bit of Honor hopefulness, but I was hoping someone might have actual information or point me to a post I had forgotten.

On Aug 21 over on the Multiverse forum RFC posted.
We're talking about a release date about 18 months after we actually hand in the ms, and I hit the wrong key. I meant to say 2016, not 2017. If we get it in by the end of 2014, 18 months would put us June of 2016.

So unless something has gone very badly wrong, The Road to Hell was finished long ago. (The long delay is due to Baen republishing the other books in the series first.)

By rotation the next book would be something from the Honorverse, but it would depend on his contractual obligations and what he feels like doing. Wasn't there talk of another two or three 'House of ... ' books with Bu-Nine at one stage? And what about the YA Treecat series or the Manticore Ascendant series? Not that I actually want to rain on your Mainline HH parade ...

I believe that CoGA theology believes in salvation through works as well as societal salvation. RFC describes the CoGA as closer to Islam that it is to Christianity. He has also mentioned a focus on works over a personal relationship with God. These are two of the key differences between the two. Also, God's Plan is mentioned repeatedly in text. Many seem to believe this simply means God has shaped our lives with choices that if taken would make our lives better. I believe it means something else. That God wants Safehold either as individuals or as a whole to accomplish certain things to earn salvation.

That suggests to me that Safehold's salvation might require the participation of the CoGA. Either the CoGA is required to perform rituals for for individuals or for Safehold as a whole to enable salvation. The CoC was the product of generations to St. Zherneau. It has succeeded in persuading generations of Charisian clergy that their relationship with God is primary over their relationship with the CoGA hierarchy. Reformists are predisposed to focus on their relationship with God over
their relationship with their hierarchy. Reformist clergy see the corruption in their superiors and focus on God. They preach the same message to their congregation.

Temple loyalists did not have that same history. Those priests were corrupt or do believe in the necessity of the CoGA to God's Plan. Anyone who believes that will have issues taking guidance from an heretical church. For those people destroying the continuity of the church built by the archangels will place their salvation in jeopardy.

So the defeat of the CoGA and forced reforms by the CoC would make the loyalist clergy and parishioner alike fear for their salvation. If Duchairn can salvage the CoGA's independence, he can try to manage the necessary reform and reconcile as much as he can with the CoC and reformists.

I can of course be totally wrong about my assumptions. Based on RFC's posts and text, I don't believe I am. If the CoGA preaches salvation through works and that it is necessary to secure Safehold's salvation, persuading loyalists otherwise would be very difficult to do within 2 generations.

Eh, Peter, nice analysis, buu are you sure you intended to post it here...

Has this been removed? I don't see it in this thread any longer, Don. No, I did not intend to post it here.

In one of RFC's recent posts (last couple months), he commented that he may be able to finish this the Safehold series ( thru the defeat of the Gang of 4) in the book he was working on now or that it may require one more book. So, maybe he's working on the sequel to HFQ now.

Sorry, but I don't remember which thread it was in and unfortunately I don't have the time to search for it, or I'd quote it here.

From http://forums.davidweber.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6358&start=09 and http://forums.davidweber.net/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6358&start=22 it would appear that a solo HH book and a novel for a new fantasy series in the Wargod universe (though this may be done already as he already had 160k words as of last Oct and wanted to have it complete by HonorCon).

My guess would be he's working on a solo HH right now followed by the next Safehold (to get it submitted in time for a Sept 2016 publish date). But those are just WAGs

Thanks. The new war god novel is Swords of the South publishing August 4th this year. Snippets now appearing in the War God forum about as frequently as HFQ snippets here.

So I guess it's the solo HH book!
