Ahh, thanks. So the CLAC gets used so that, in effect, the preparation time for the LAC's and crews can be spread out into the transit time far more effectively than aboard freighters.

If they yet had the LAC modules for freighters - which would plausibly offer similar simulator and maintenance conditions - freighters with those modules would serve this purpose much more economically. But here, with a CLAC to spare and without one of those "auxiliary CLAC's" ready, it's better than the existing alternatives. I take it none of the Trojan q-ships remain for this sort of thing? They'd make a dandy platform for it.

Another point that the CLAC's provide -- like a modern CV / CVN with multiple squadrons, one squadron (VF114 just to pull a random name) can be the ready/alert squadron, while their sister squadron (VF213, again a random pick) gets routine maintenance done, then swap alert status)

We should also consider that we are being shown the --use CLACs to deliver LAC squadrons (and larger groups) to systems in Talbott-- as plot device. The CLACs show up, Mike takes control of them with her new orders and attach them to the 10th Fleet. I don't recall if it was just to the 10th Fleet or she put some of them into the TO of Talbot Quadrant forces.

Essentialy she changed the orders of the arriving "shuttle" CLACS so that she added them to her combat force and is/has taken most if not all along with her to Mesa and for whatever she plans. She has also now been to Meyers and "liberated" that system from OFS control even if Meyers wasn't trying to use a revolution to throw off OFS/FF control. She has sucessfully dispatched Task Groups off to support local liberation movements in other systems in control of or at least under the thrall of OFS or Transtellar. Of course she also sent the force to Saltash to free Manticorian Citizens and in the process, along with chopping up local OFS/FF forces, set up a situtation for regime change at least in the person of the Lt. Gov. getting the Gov. removed and POSSIBLY a situation where the Lt. Gov. and remnants of the original government shift into something in that single system that could resemble what Berragos is doing with Maya.

She only commondeered the 4 shuttle CLACS for the Battle of Spindle. After the Battle, 10th Fleet was given 20 Medusas without KH2 and 20 CLACS as it's core OOB in addition to the 16 Nikes and the rest. The 6 KH2 Invicti originally sent to deal with Crandall were recalled to Manticore after the Yawata strike, and in recompense, Mike was given the 40 SD(p)s/CLACS as her OOB. It was never said whether those 20 CLACS were the ones implanting the defenses or formations sent with the SDs.

However it is telling that each system is getting fewer LACS than originally planned until the production lines are up are running again, so it may be that some of the shuttle CLACS ended up in her OOB after all.

on a side note, It's still crazy to think - "We have intell that as many as 100 Solarian SDs and escorts are moving to raid Spindle." "Give them 1 squadron of Invicti - that should be overkill."

RFC said "refitting a Beowulfan SD to Manticoran standards would be just as difficult as refitting a standard SLN SD to those standards. In other words, it would be cheaper and faster to build new ships."

Or possibly not. Saltash was noted as a rare place where the OFS presence was a (net) benefit — keeping the locals from wiping each other out.

Imagined conversation:
Admiral [noting yet another Manty tech surprise]:
XO, what's the budget for the ONI?
Vice Admiral: I don't recall exactly, sir. Several billion quatloos.
Admiral: ... What do you suppose they did with all that money?

But that OFS intrusion was required several generations ago - now the beligerants are as removed from power (and each other's throats) as possible. Without the Gendarm enforcers, the chances of a nuclear war over fishing rights happening is nil. The need for OFS @ Saltash probably has come and gone.

And drawing Manticoran attention to Saltash can't be good for OFS' reputation there. Saltash is lucky it didn't lose lives or much property in that fiasco.

OFS' presence is and has been less bad there than many places, but the way things are now, it's at least unclear the OFS remains welcome, or that it is still backed by an invincible reputation of Frontier Fleet and the Gendarmerie.

------------

None the less, Saltash has seen (up close and personal) OFS's velvet glove and protective services (replay Lando C. "we had an agreement"; Darth V. "I have just modified our agreement")
I think that an embassy from Grayson or SEM might help Saltash settle their "fishing dispute" and join the new-growing number of independent systems in the Madras sector.

As Terekhov demonstrated, a CLAC looks like a SD; with Sag-C's to provide the long-ranged missile support, the CLAC can also be a heavy assault ship with Marine Assault Craft in the small craft bays.

---------------

The SLN has yet to tangle with the junction forts (now operational) or Adm Blaine (at the Junction Terminus).

I suspect that any SLN force arriving at Spindle will be lashed with fire control LIDAR, asked to observe the still drifting (and being re-claimed) remnants of Crandall's fleet and invited to stand down and enjoy an idyllic life on Spindle's tropical islands.

Terakhov had a total of 2 battalions at Mobius. He is also going to be parked there for the immediate future serving as peacekeeper and neutral observer for the trials that are more than likely happening.
