They say the only things certain in life is death and taxes. I think they forget government fiddling with tax laws.

10 yo Brad wrote a letter to God asking for $500 to help his family. He addressed the letter to "God, Heaven". The Post-office didn't really know what to make of it so they sent it on to the Congress in Washington. The congress-men had fun reading the letter and decided that the boy could use some encouragement and sent $50 in a return letter.

When the youngling got the letter with the $50 he was ecstatic and decided to write a thank you letter.

-"Dear God, thank you very much for the money. I see that you sent the money through the government and the idiots took 90% in taxes."

Got drafted. Interesting. Used to be Firefighter. ISO Class 1 Agency. Then I was a Paramedic Firefighter with the same outfit. Then retired and became a Registered Nurse. AA in fire science. AA in paramedic stuff.

AA in registered nursing. BA in registered nursing. MA in health sciences. USA college degrees. Much to do about nothing. Now retarded and a Junior Captain soss all of your underlings better ... salute ... too!

HB of CJ (old coot) :) :) Also a lefty. Aged 68 which is really .. old! Very Libertarian. Agnostic. Maybe leaning Anarchist? Have not watched TV in over 20 years. I read for recreation. I love Mr. Webers stuff. Warp One Mr Sulu. No ... wait ... wrong books! :) :)

But, all things considered perhaps I would have been happier just being a heavy duty diesel engine mechanic after the fire fighter paramedic gig. Much more fun as the patient does not talk back at you or up and die. :)

Or perhaps the lack there of.

At 3:57 Pm yesterday, 3 minutes before the end of the work day I was notified that my continued employment after 13+ years was a moot point. They escorted be back to my desk which I cleared, handed me my final pay check, and escorted out to the parking lot. Total shock!!!

So today what did I do... Slept in till noon, read, surfed the internet, worked on my novel, just plain relaxed.

What did I miss... Driving in traffic to and from work for two hours a day... putting up with inconsiderate managers who could not find their butt even with two hands and looking over their shoulder at a mirror.

AS MLK said, "free at last, free at last, thank god I am free at last"...

Later.

Senior Chief: I salute you for your ability to keep the proper point of view and perspective about your rather non usual job separation event. Good to hear that when the going gets tough, the tough have every right just to sit things out ... because they have earned it! Just me. HB of CJ (old coot)

Best wishes Senior Chief. On several occasions I had to carry out a cardboard box of personal stuff while being escorted off the premises. Not nice particularly when I hadn't done anything to deserve it.

For what it was worth In each case I eventually found better employment and over the years those organisations folded anyway.

Senior never had that pleasure. But good luck and best wishes on whatever you decide to do.
