Geesh, does our favorite author like to skip around! OK so back to Merlin and Aivah Pahrsahn (Eva Parson for those that get a little tired of the name distortion game).
OK so, yes it does look like Aivah has a real fondness for our favorite PICA, and I think Merlin may have a soft spot for her too. Time will tell. It also looks like Sandaria is going to have to be placed in suspended animation because she's not adjusting to it all. Frankly, if your going to be serious about this she probably already should be, because it's clear that if your still entertaining this much doubt about Sandaria's ability to deal with it, you're probably just being nice and you already know the answer. She can't handle it and it's time to be humane about it and cryo her till times change. Putting it off simply isn't going to help anyone.

Now about the idea that we're going to soon see what St. Khody wrote in his diaries... well maybe, but I'm guessing that there's a far bit of exposition and plot development between the time of this snippet and the time we begin to find out, what, if anything, they might tell us. I expect the point of view to actually shift back to the other realms and places about three or four more time before we get the details. Frankly Khody's diaries are one of the most likely places to start unraveling the Schuler mystery and clues to shutting down the Big Bad OBS, as well as who and what is coming in terms of the temple. I just can't seem to see Mr. Weber giving that sort of long range spoiler out for free.
Nope I'm thinking we might get as far as the northern battle before the snippets cut off and the book appears... well maybe we get to that point, but, maybe not too. After all, for all that David is a nice guy and loves his readers, etc, etc. He still wants to sell books. I expect his publisher would like that too. Never give the big plot points away for free.
Just how I see it.

Of course I do hope to at least hear our favorite inquisitor lose it over the debacle from the last book before the snippets end, but that's just me wanting to heat some popcorn and enjoy the show!

Thanks for a very interesting snippet. Can't wait to have the whole book in hand...

Larry, the choice to go into cryo will be Sandaria's. She has been promised that and Merlin won't go back on his word.

Agree - she can be held at the cave for a long as necessary, even until she dies of old age if required - so allowing her the option of cryo as her choice makes sense as a way to establish bona fides.

There really is no reason to go into cryo. Not for her and not for the Inner Circle. There will be more initiates who can't take the hole revelation. Give them a home in a series of extensions of the cave. Make those extensions big enough live a really comfortable life. I am thinking more in square kilometers than acres in total.

And give them orphans to raise. Orphans young enough to get implants. It will transform the doubters that life in the cave. And in twenty years it will give the inner circle a cadre of teachers, soldiers and administrators or sejins. Whatever call in life those orphans want to answer.

This is certainly an interesting idea. I like it. That would make a nice story line. I wonder if Merlin and company have the capability to pull off the implants bit.

That's a really nice idea, but it would require a lot of mining, and that would lead to waste disposal, 'cause you have to get rid of the stuff you take out to extend the cage, or, if the technology exists, dissolving the rock with a blaster or whatever, which would be violating the prohibitions, and bring down Rakuri on the mountains of light.

Now, don't you guys go reading too much speculation into this one . . . . :P

Sorry, sir. No can do. I'm already alternating between fangirl squealing and humming "Aivah and Merlin, sittin' in a tree..."
And, um, RFC? Aren't you the same guy who also wrote:

The reason I was so angry with you, Honor, is that you made me forget the very first principal of command: never give an order you know won't be obeyed.

Nope, no can do. Far as I'm concerned, the only thing left is for Merlin to pop Clyntahn into an incinerator, and cook him down into a nice shiny 3-carat diamond for Aivah's engagement ring.

New snippet, and pretty data-filled one! Thank you, RFC!
