Does anyone else on this forum like the idea of a more thorough "prequel" of events only touched upon in OAR?
Maybe start on old Earth with the plans, how Eric Langhorne got involved, the command crew selected, Nimue Alban's roles therein, and so on. For instance, why Eric Langhorne did what he did? More Commodore Pei and his Wife? The conspiracy-makers and all the little details? If this sounds interesting, would RFC listen to our petition? Just throwing this out there .... |

Yeah, that's like just what we need - another series for RFC so split his time for ...
Let's at least wait until we get to the end of the current string, and ideally until we get to the resolution of the Gbaba issue before we start encouraging any further distractions. |

We really need a "Like" button in this forum! --
A common mistake people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools. |

I don't know about all that, but I could do with a "War of the Fallen" novella.

I suspect we will get at least a bit of this in HFQ. The snippets have skipped a lot of discussion amongst the inner circle about the information from Aviah. |

Keep in mind that the snippets we're getting now are verbatim from the upcoming book, so whatever discussion the inner circle has had (and I'm sure there was a LOT of it!) has taken place offstage, so we won't be privy to it unless RFC adds a flashback. That's entirely possible since the plot concerning Aivah hasn't progressed from when we last saw her. I certainly hope we learn more about the very nebulous period of Safehold's history known as the War of the Fallen in HFQ, although RFC has made some fairly extensive posts about it that everyone may not be aware of. Specifically I refer everyone to this page from the FAQs/Safehold section of this website: http://www.davidweber.net/faqs/index/page:4/series:6 In fact, reading the Safehold FAQ would probably put an end to a goodly percentage of the threads and posts that appear - especially the repetitive ones, like "Why not nuke the temple?" Of course that would deprive those of us who have invested entirely too much time and energy in becoming "experts" about Safehold from tossing in our two cents whenever these common subjects are repeated! By the way, RFC's answer to the questions "Where did the myths of Seijins come from? Are there more out there?" contains the most candid hints of what actually appears later in the series of anything I've ever seen him explain. Who imagined that he'd tell the unvarnished truth? Enjoy! "Oh bother", said Pooh as he glanced through the airlock window at the helmet he'd forgotten to wear. |
