Yes, I am aware of the site acting up. I've already notified the webmaster.

Ok, I'm cautiously optimistic I've finally slain the dragon. The site was butting up against the storage limits set by our host. That caused the database to blow up due to a corrupted the SQL table. So first I had to to find all of the hosting information, which was set up before I was brought onboard as admin; then I had to get the host to up our storage tier (and get it paid for); then I had to fix the SQL error. Ugh. So things should be working now.

Duckk, glad you were able to fix the website. I wondered, though, I had sent you an email to report it per the error message. I got it returned as invalid 4 hours later...

Ah well, that probably explains why suddenly ALL posts in my tagged threads were listed as unread, even those before my own posts, including threadstarter.
Not a real problem but i thought i should mention it just in case. |

Hey Duckk, do you know what in particular was causing us to butt up against the limit? might it be time to remove some of the dead threads and users? Looking through the rankings, theres a lot of users there over a few years old, that apparently havent logged in since their creation, with no posts. maybe a cleanup of users and old threads might help?

But that wouldn't be very nice. Consider someone who was a prolific poster and rose to the top in ranking, who cannot post now because of physical disabilities, but may still peruse the forum. Why punish their former effort and accomplishment? Plus, the total member count would drop. Besides, archived posts are educational. Not to mention that present posts will one day be as old as the ones you recommend destroying, even if the owners are still active. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |
