...and on to the black desert under the endless night.
The renowned british sci-fi/fantasy writer Terry Pratchett has passed away at the age of 66. A true visionary, Terry Pratchett will be mourned by his fans. His Discworld series was truly inspiring and helped many young people learn the pleasures of a good book. His is survived by his wife and daughter. Noli Timere Messorem Terry, you will be missed. ~~~~~~

I am the same age and I can honestly say I have NOT read a single one of his books. My bad... but there are so many other good authors and books to read and I have so little time to explore them all. Still sorry to see that he has died. To many of my favorite authors have died in the last year... Aging is the pits, and I would not wish his illness on anyone... |

There was a piece in the paper I think it was that could have been written by Sir Terry himself.
The author died at home surrounded by his family, with his cat asleep on the bed. Or something like that. Probably the most famous person I ever actually spoke to (even if all I uttered was something stupid) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You are so going to die. :p ~~~~ runsforcelery ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ still not dead. |

I've chuckled through more than one book written by Pratchett, cursing silently at 3am that I can't stop reading and are going to be a bleary-eyed zombie at work.
I will always remember your wit, I hope you end up in Ankh-Morpork - the wildest, greatest and smelliest city in all the multiverse. --- Jack of all trades and destructive tinkerer. Anyone who have simple solutions for complex problems is a fool. |

Truly and extremely. Lets hope what he said in an interview a few years ago that suggested his daughter might continue his writing, was as well founded as he made it sound. He can not be replaced, but it would be nice to see more of his amazingly great characters and worlds. There´s a petition to Death on change.org, to bring him back. I just had to sign. |

In a more recent interview, Rhianna Pratchett said that she would protect Terry's legacy, acting as the custodian of the Discworld and will almost certainly not write any new stuff. However, she is more than happy for Sky to continue turning all the books into miniseries, like they have with the Colour Of Magic, Hogfather and Going Postal. Terry was irreplaceable, his writing style unique. He walked a path that few can follow and any author who tries to continue the series will probably only end up ruining it. After all, Si non confectus non recifiat. ~~~~~~

The only bright side I can see is that the afterlife, if such there is, just got a lot wittier... |

I only discovered the Discworld novels in the last few years, but since then they have been among my favorites. I was very sad to see that he died, though I understand that his condition had been deteriorating for some time. Though I didn't know him long, he will be missed.
