You know, it might actually be fun to "have a tourney" on some quasi/almost related but not uber-tightly controlled website, with imaginary awards and everything. Maybe BuNine could act as judges, etc. I'd most certainly play!

Starting with the list below:
I would add "Amos Parnell" - Managing to extricate most of his fleet from a White Haven orchestrated pincer trap surprise is quite an achievement. I know he would be quite rusty but lets assume he has some time to get back into form. I shall also add: Sonia Hemphill Allen Higgins Luis Rozsak So here are my lists: Team 1 Hamish Alexander Jennifer Bellefeuille Michael Oversteegen Judah Yanakov Amos Parnell Team 2 Thomas Theissman Lester Tourville Michelle Henke Shannon Foraker Allen Higgins |

Assuming that Team A starts with Thomas Theisman and Team B starts with Hamish Alexander, and Thomas gets to pick first:
Team A Thomas Theisman Alfredo Yu Mark Sarnow Michelle Henke Jennifer Bellefeuille Team B Hamish Alexander Lester Tourville Judah Yanakov Alice Truman Shannon Foraker I figure Theisman picks Yu first, for a lot of reasons (mentor, familiarity with Grayson and Manticore, familiarity with Hamish Alexander). And then Hamish counters by picking Tourville, as the most experienced Havenite combat commander. I put Sarnow and Yanakov as the next round of picks for the simple reason that they both have experience as big-stage strategic thinkers, and thus both have the chops to replace their bosses as overall star-nation fleet commanders if one side suffers a casualty at the top. Sarnow has been responsible for the whole of Silesia and demonstrated tremendous ability as a fleet commander, while Yanakov is Grayson's fleet commander and has a fiendishly clever tactical mind. After that, Thomas picks Henke and Hamish counters with Truman, then Thomas dips into his own navy and takes probably his finest young fleet commander in Bellefeuille. Foraker doesn't get picked until last for the simple reason that we've never seen her command a ship in battle, but she's a wild card that has the potential to pay off in a big way for Hamish. I doubt Theisman would be very happy about it, too. |

Oh yes, that would be cool. An online strategic and tactical simulation of human against human. Sort of like online chess. That would weed out the Byngs, Crandalls, Santinos and Youngs. The computer can even pick whether you are bonded or not, and assign you a cat. But the simulations could potentially be awesome. Especially if a certain three letter character, not mentioning who (RFC) would stack the Sims deck. Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense |

I'd split up Yanakov and Tourville for the sake of balance. Both are known for gambling and taking risks. Maybe swap one of them with Sarnow? |

Crown Loyalist. It was a joy reading this. Interesting, insightful and humorous.
When I conceived of this scenario, I was interested in the thoughts, tactical and strategic, of everyone. And how everyone perceived each officer's relative strengths. This is the mark of a superior strategist. Devious too. Choosing an opponent because he has inside intel on the opposition is a stroke of devious-genius. Bravo!
Your copy of the Art of War must be well worn. Needs rebinding?
This is why I wanted to pattern it after a game of five-on-five, because the same dynamics of the human element would apply. Each pick demands a counter move. I'd like to see a lot more of Bellefeuille.
Shannon as a wild card. Doesn't that just tickle your fancy? This is a wild card that I hope RFC will someday play. He certainly has a card up his sleeve with Shannon. That would make for a heck of a curve to storyline. Or a screwball if you're the MALign.
Very funny! No he won't. But he should have chosen her himself. A point that she's apt to make very pointed! He'll pay for not choosing her!! Oops! Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Yes, I can totally see Hamish wondering what the hell those two are doing. But potentially it'll turn out brilliant, or team Alexander could get royally reamed. Although I risk losing your favour, I must clarify that Sonia Hemphill is on my list of potentials rather than the final teams. She would be in my B reserves along with Andrea Jaruwalski and Luis Rozsak however. My A-reserves would be Alfredo Yu, Aivars Terekhov and Oliver Diamato. ------------ I'd like to Add Scotty Tremaine to the list of potentials. ------------ I've also noticed that none of the Andermani are getting much love right now. Is this because of the [relative] lack of screen-time in combat? Or could it be the confusing and difficult to remember names? Apart from Chien-lu Anderman I have no idea who the rest of them are! ------------ My criteria for selection were: * Sneakiness * Planning Ability * Ability to act under stress (before & during combat) * Perceptiveness * Leadership (ability to get the most out of their subordinates) The idea was that I wanted both teams to have the best chance of winning the exercise against their opposition, I'm ignoring any skills not relevant to planning and winning battles. ------------ I would love to see what RFC's lists would be! |
