As I sit here working on a research paper trying to stay awake while reading such scintillating bits as "ECAR Study of Undergraduate Students and Information Technology, 2013" I decided to take a break and ask a curiosity question. For the upcoming book, which plot thread are you most interested in seeing pursued? The Northern campaign (Baron Green Valley trudging through the snow ala Henry Knox or the Finnish counter-Russian partisans)? The southern Campaign? The Sisterhood of Saint Khody thread? The next Royal wedding? The King Harald sweeps the seas campaign? David will, of course advance all of them as he sees fit, but which bit is the one that interests you. Myself I want to see how that Northern campaign comes out. I'd really like to see the Temple Loyalists shoved as far toward the border states as possible in the north. Anyway what is it you good folks are looking forward to?

PeterZ and I have been screaming for the ICN to return to the Gulf of Dohlar and pay Thirsk and King Rahnyld back for the torture and death of the Charisian POWs in their custody for at least two books now, much to RFC's amusement. So I'm rather looking forward to Thirsk meeting the first "broadside" from a Haarahld VII! Thirty broadsides and thirty sunk galleons later we could bid farewell to the NoG and put a nail in Thirsk's coffin, but he'll surrender after the first couple of ships explode when they're hit just once.

The Battle of Gorath Bay, with the screw galleys attacking armored battleships should be lots of fun, minus the surprises the SNARCs may have missed like mines or spar torpedoes. What sort of damage the fleet does to Gorath (and what Cayleb's instructions will be) should be interesting. I'm voting for the capture of King Rahnyld (and possible hanging) plus the mass execution of every inquisitor in town. I wonder if the secular authorities will cough up the ones who were involved in mistreating and transporting the Charisian POWs to Zion? (The ones Mab hasn't already dispatched in a most satisfying way that is, which may say some rather disturbing things about my psyche!)

SPOILER COMING!!!!

There's the side drama of Merlin and/or Nimue possibly rescuing Thirsk's family from the tender mercies of the Inquisition, and whether he'll surrender his fleet before it's turned to splinters even if he thinks the Inquisition still has his family. I wonder if he'll decide to emigrate, or will he serve on the regency council if Rahnyld is executed? Then there's the bit about faking his death - if he was faking it, that is. (As if we're gonna believe that he wasn't!)

If the SNARCS straight up MISS mines and Spar Torpedoes being deployed by Dohlar, someone screwed up big in the Inner Circle.

Like, blood on their hands, lose their job big. That is not the kind of thing that appears overnight out of thin air.

That being said I can't WAIT to see Thrisk and Dohlar get whats coming to them. I'm very much with Admiral Sharpfield on this, It may not have been his idea but actions have consequences.

I've always been a navy guy myself, and have also always been more interested in the advancement of technology and how it effects tactics and strategy than the warfare itself. Give me some more ironclad/steamer battles.

That said, I'd like to see Thirsk come to the ICN as I have been wishing since Caleb first defeated him in OAR.

I'm now going to go back and see if I can find where it is that Thirsk's death was spoken of. I'm hoping it wasn't a forum post posing as a part of the books in my mind...

Ah, good. Tiny snippet #4. Thirsk's death is being faked, and I will continue with that belief until proven otherwise.

Where does it say that Thirsk faked his death? I haven't seen that anywhere in the books or snippets.

I want to see the King Harold smash Dollar
and then hang the king.

I'm also interested in how the GO4 handles the losses at the end of the last book.

I think I'm most curious about the northern campaign, in the sense of it being able to answer questions that I'm not prepared to guess at with any confidence.

I can't say I look forward to it with as much interest as Duchairn's next moves, Merlin's endurance of opportunistic guilt, or how things go for Thirsk.

I'm certainly not looking forward to the shooting in the Gulf of Dohlar. It's likely to be the most interesting combat, but it's also sickening at this point, like the last portions of the Second Havenite War in the Honorverse for the same reason. I at least just want the stupid killing to end so the decent people can stop ending one another at the behest of third-party scum.

"Baghdad Bob" or "Comical Ali"?

I look forward to Clyntahn being carried off, or rendered incapable, by an apoplexy during one of his rages, leaving Rayno exposed like Beria.

Then back to the Naval campaigns.

Personally I would like to see how young Hector's career develops further. (Is he going to lose an eye at some point if the future?)
