HFQ snippet request

As a guess our favorite celery muncher has deadlines looming and has his nose to the writing grindstone. He'll be back to play when his chores are done never fear.

What deadlines? Does he have a new book that needs to be finished. I was under the impression that HFQ was turned in and mostly done.


Also, random question. How long does it take for a printer to print say ten thousand copies of a book? For instance, the most popular first edition I know of was Harry Potter 7. How much lead time would the printers have needed for that.

Oh, Randomiser. You are suffering from what is known as snippet withdrawal. It is medical condition recognized in the DSM V. Symptoms are as follows.

Stage One:
Within five minutes of finishing a snippet the afflicted person will reexamine the forum looking for more information. They will begin obsessively examining all threads for possible spoilers and missed snippets.

Stage Two:
After reading all new posts a sense of despair will set in and this feeling will continue until the afflicted begins rereading the snippet and older snippets to stave off the looming depression.

Stage Three:
After stage two the person may repeat both stage one and stage two several times before giving into despair and logging off. They will then be depressed for several hours until their mind becomes otherwise occupied and then they will slowly begin to recover from their depression.

Stage Four:
The afflicted will then return to their life and act as normal though they may relapse to stage one several more times during the following two weeks.

Stage Five:
This stage only occurs when the drug dealer sometimes colloquially known as the 'Author' has given a schedule for when a dose of 'snippet' will be delivered. When the 'Author' is such an evil person the afflicted will begin to relapse to stage one with increasing frequency up to the deadline for the snippet. If the deadline passes the afflicted will continue to relapse to stage one with increasing frequency until for several days until thy give up all hope of receiving a new snippet and sink into a deep depression.

Stage Six:
A new snippet is found and the person reads it and relapses to stage one again.


The only known cure for this terrible disease is a very large dose of 'snippet' also sometimes called a 'Book'. This will cure the addiction until the afflicted learns that a new snippet has been delivered and then their is always an immediate relapse.


Due to the devastating nature of 'snippet addiction' their have been many recommendations that snippets be made illegal and the providers of them be criminally charged.

Actually the postings begging for new snippets are very funny. They perfectly illustrate the Mikado's song:

Oh HFQ was done and dusted long ago. Sword of the South is due out August 4 and I'm not sure what the manuscript status for that is. RFC could be doing final edits I guess. The other thing AFAIK is the 3rd in the Multiverse series which RFC hoped might be finished by the end of last year, but who knows whether he made it. The working title was The Road to Hell and the idea was it would be published about 18 months after submission, maybe mid 2016, to give Baen time to republish the first two books beforehand. Hell's Gate is coming out in July, clearly in anticipation.

@To anyone who knows David well enough and is able to say something about it without to abuse his trust in him/her: Is there a reason that RFC has to publish the snippets of HFQ and SotS all by himself? Why not put the snippets to the charge of DrakBibliography or Duckk who imho both are proficient snippeteers in their own right? Then only give them the frequency he wants the snippets to hit the conferences here ... and we all will be happy

RFC doesn't even have to give the whole books away. Only to the point where he intends the snippets to go, then the books hit the shelves.

I am certainly in the "Click, oh crud, no snippet" repeat frequently do loop. However, I find the fact that our favorite runner after crunchy vegetables has this web site and these forums wonderous even if he is not able to feed myself and my fellow junkies a fix on as regular a schedule as I would like.

I remember trying to get an inter library loan of a book in Kansas in the early 1960s and waiting weeks for the event to take place. The fact that authors today are willing to interact with their readers in this fashion and I don't have to be at the mercy of Maid Marion, the Librarian, for what is stocked in my local public library or small book store never ceases to amaze me.

Of course I want all you young wipper snappers to get off my lawn as well.

But as I close, "Please RFC/MWW sir, my I have another?"

I have noticed that my work productivity goes down when there is no new snippet, I can usually last about 7 days before rereading all snippets to try and tide me over... but now my productivity has just plummeted.... Bad time of year for it too, Tax Season waits on no snippets, but the hours are much more enjoyable while thinking of the new snippet that will be posted soon..
