Given that she's totally ruining military discipline, teaching folks to swear in forgotten languages, extorting the good guys to pay her family's way to fortune, AND just helped capture a primary slaver transhipment depot....

What's next for our favorite crotchety entrepreneur?

Haha. Woke up this morning with a new "folio" position.

Ambassador at large/Negotiator vs. OFS diplomats.

I'd include a sample of dialogue for one of her negotiating sessions, but alas, Ganny is a practitioning black-belt level master of the curse, while I, alas, poor grasshopper, cannot yet take the coin out of her hand.

Queen of Mesa. :o

Well, somebody has to be in charge of the assorted Havenites, Manties, Torchese, Andies and Beowulfers that'll be occupying the place and sure as anything the slaves/seccies and the 'citizens' won't be trusting each other, so there has to be a third party that all of them can deal with but is not obligated to any one group.

And the deals Ganny could make for her family...maybe move the whole amusement park to Mesa.... 8-) ;)

Since Eric is out of the picture now, I seriously doubt that we'll see more of Ganny El. As far as cleaning up Mesa is concerned, I could easily see that taking several books - and since RFC has said he's only planning two (or possibly three) more books to finish the series, I don't think we're going to see a lot of how the situation on Mesa evolves.

Bummer.

Oh, I don't know. I suspect that David will pick up Eric's characters to provide continuity in his telling of the story.

Yeppers. First they have to pass cussing 401 though. Ah... hmmm...

Revanchist Q-Ship Squadron Command Mistress. RTN-AMC Weird splice export models. Turn those sucker(s) into our favorite form of sledgehammers in soap-bubbles, say 3MM of the 8MM kilotons, and haul 3MM or so K-tons of interesting support stuff or even profitable merchant stuff for fun and profit on the side.

Which characters? Two or three books is awfully tight to bring this phase of the series to a satisfactory conclusion; I don't see a whole lot of space for characters like Ganny El, who are, after all, rather limited in their scope of operations. I grant you, Ganny El is amusing, but she really has no abilities beyond what we've seen to date.

We're much more likely to see Anton, Victor, Thandi and Yana. And remember that everything in the Torch series isn't Eric's. Maya sector is RFC's, and Erewhon is too central to lots of things to simply drop, although we really only have one important Erewhonese character.

Interesting characters have ways of coming back. If the main novels aren't a good fit for them, there is always short stories!

Which RFC will no doubt write in his copious spare time.
