I agree that the scenario outlined above makes sense. The question in my own mind is does it make sense to go after Ahlverez. His army is both exhausted and hungry and at this point in no shape to engage in battle.

But on the other hand you don't want him squating on the Sheridan interdicting Hanth's supply lines which have grown quite long. So maybe being sure that Ahlverez is out of play is worth doing.

My own guess is that Rychtyr is going to retreat down that canal toward the main strength on the Dohlaran army rather than to risk throwing good money after bad by trying to hang on to Evyrtyn and having his supply lines cut. I doubt there will be any counterattacks at this time.

I think it makes a tremendous amount of sense to go after Ahlverez. He has 35,000 experienced men who are presently not in very good shape. When you are starving, and your clothing and equipment are in tatters, when you are almost out of ammunition, it is probably very hard to put up a good fight. However, if he gets them home, gets them re-equipped, gets them healthy, they become a serious fighting force, and cadre for a much larger army. Much better to not let them get home at all.

Very sensible sounding logic... The real question, however, is if that is a more important priority than reinforcing Hanth against Rychtyr with Hanth stretched thin numbers wise and Rychtyr about to be reinforced. Rychtyr is the opponent who is dangerous now.

Still, after this has been factored in, you could still be right...

A couple of military truisms.

Never leave an enemy alive behind you.

It is far better to eliminate an enemy completely than to let him live to fight another day (capture is a very viable option, as Hitler demonstrated in Russia early in WWII, and as Stalin demonstrated later in the same war).

It's best to eliminate threats while they are smaller and more manageable, rather than to let them grow.

Hanth, DE and HM are not fools. If they know of Ahlverez' location and can bring the necessary resources to bear, they will take steps to capture or eliminate his forces. If they don't have good intel, they will work to get it. Hanth will be on board as soon as he learns of Ahlverez' actions and discerns his probable intentions.

Fifth grade girls sounds like fun, provided their antics haven't turned your hair completely white!

Ah! I see you know fifth grade girls.

Tonto: Okay, girls. Put your phones away. We're going to study a lesson from the bible now.

Girls: But Mr. Silerheels! My bible is ON my phone.

Tonto: <sigh>
