Ummm...the hyper limit...hence the name.

Thanks crewdude. But is it given in concrete distance per system? And on what does the jump depend? Is it a function of velocity?

It's a matter of the stellar (or other body) mass. Wormholes also mess up hyper transits in an area between them and the primary.

Translations into or out of hyper may not be possible at certain high velocities. I do not have the details that way on the top of my head or with an easy reference though - surely someone else will.

It depends. You will not safely translate inside the hyper limit. At some points you simply will remain in hyperspace. At other points you will exit hyperspace, but you'll die and your ship will be destroyed. I suggest you avoid option B.

It may be that you can get into hyper even if you are almost (but not quite) on top of the wormhole terminus. There is no textev to suggest otherwise.

Here's one I have puzzled over. What happened to the rest of Filareta's Fleet?

I mean, we know that he sailed with about twenty+ BCs' thirty or so Cruisers, and some destroyers (I don't have the book in front of me) and support ships and troop carriers for over 400,000 Marines.

And all ART mentions are the Sollie SD's. Not a hint of the fate of over 100 ships and over 1/2 million personnel.

There seem to me to be several options open: (1).Filareta could have brought them with his SD's and they surrendered at the same time, but that doesn't make a lot of sense to me and if he had brought the smaller ships along he would certainly deployed them as a screen--he did appear at least that smart. Or (2) He could have left them at the hyper limit with orders to hyper back out if things went south-I tend to subscribe to this, based on his approach and general planning, it would seem the prudent thing to do. Or maybe (3) he left them in hyper with a DD or CL in N-space to provide instructions depending on how things went (ala Mike Henke at Spindle and later Meyers). Only reason I don't like this is that it would mean he could be as clever as Mike and I am not willing to grant Filareta that many smarts.

I even wrote a 'quik-fic' of what I thought happened to them, but since Duckk and RFC frown on anything that looks like fanfic, it will remain in my notes.

There's not a hint that anyone thinks Filereta is a fool; even his attack plan gave him options for "outs" that he intended to take if need be, but the GA counter attack plan suckered him too far inside the hyper limit. Now then, that being the case...

I'd assume that Filerat nor his better admirals were not stupid enough to have brought the marine carriers across the hyper wall, as that would force him to defend, rather than calling for them later. I also don't think he'd leave them all by their lonesomes in hyper space for the same reason -- too easy for them to be jumped. What he didn't do in between was to guard the back door between the two or he would have tried to trap any small RMN ship before it could hyper out and bring in the Havenite formations.

So my assumption is that 11th fleet's in system force had a good chunk of the BC's, etc. to get eyes forward, on the flanks, etc. and left enough ships behind to guard the troop ships, any missile colliers, etc. That also being the possible case, I wouldn't be surprised if the next move the GA made (offscreen, no textev available) was to capture any ships remaining in near- hyperspace, aka hyper a couple of the Havenite formations back out to put those remaining ships into their own mousetrap.

And as for capturing them, well, there is no mention of any RMN/RH/Grayson BC's or smaller screening units either in the textev.

I wonder where they were at.... 8-)

There is, IIRC FADM Alexander-Harrington sent most if not all of her lighter warships to Gryphon to if possible reprise the Battle of Spindle.
