Question: Will she be able to pass this status down to her heirs? If you are a commoner before such a title, then your successive bloodlines are automatically no longer commoners but aristocrats?

Presumably so, unless she's a life peer. But the fact that she's listed as "1st Baroness Medusa" indicates that there's expected to be a subsequent Baroness (or Baron) Medusa, so I would assume that it's a genuine aristocratic title.

After all, Elizabeth does like rewarding those who serve her well. Much to those subjects' occasional discomfort....

Which means, she needs to get busy making an heir apparent. And right now it ain't apparent where an heir will come, lacking a parent.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

And we all know who the other parent of that heir apparent should be!

During Honor's Middy cruise on War Maiden, she had several crewmembers who watched her early career start, among them

Lieutenant Commander Abner Layson, War Maiden's XO,
Senior Chief Roland Shelton and
Senior Master Chief Ian Flanagan

Shelton and Flanagan are likely retired at this point (1920+ PD).

If these three have survived, I would be curious for their thoughts.

Others have already answered the first question (being called first Baroness Medusa implies it is a hereditary title). To answer the second question, David has indicated that Manticore does have both hereditary and non-hereditary baroncies. So in the general case, it depends on whether the Queen made the title hereditary.

If I recall correctly, non-hereditary peers do not get seated in Parliament, either.

Duke Jeptha Adcock and Duke Aiden Adcock, QEIII uncles on her mothers side have courtesy titles while Jonas Adcock avoided it.

This'd be as much for the Power Cupid thread as this one, but I can see it now:
Dame Estelle: "Gus. I have NEEDS. Dynastic needs. You gotta help me here!"

Boy, you fellers must have got in real trouble with she who must not be thwarted on the Power Cupid line...

Of course, I agree, just to maintain good relations with the purty LASS (Lady Across Said Sea). So I'll add my .02 cents worth and have her add, in a husky under her breath tone... hoshii, ne! [okay, cheating, that's Japanese for...]

Don't know if I will misstate this question, but ...

It seems that a ship in hyper has some control over how far in-system the astrogator can place them? What is the limit?
