"Direwolf18"

I must say this snippet thing is fantastic. Otherwise I would read the entire book in a day and be chomping at the bit even longer.

1) We get outstanding commentary from (us) the participants.
2) Lots of great info (from us) on little know knowledge most of us have no idea about.
3) The author Himself participates- a lot.
4) Himself makes us laugh- no mean feat!!

Don't want no ARC!!

Oh I'd like an ATC, but snippets too until the ARC is released.

The link for the macmillan info is http://us.macmillan.com/mobile/book/9780765321879
So far, I can only find it on the mobile site.

Amazingly, it's also that date on Amazon UK!
[bet they change it to a month later  ]

BTW what is this 'Sword of the South' book from RFC - I guess its from Bahzell series?

Yes, Sword of the South is the next Bahzell book - pop over to the War Gods forum and you can even read a few snippet from himself!

Even Roman emperors had to live with smoke holes, the chimney was invented in the Dark Ages.[/quote]

Actually, by the time Rome became an empire wealthy Romans, especially in the northern provinces but also in central and northern Italy, heated their homes with hypocausts, which included chimneys as part of their engineering. Since both building and stoking a hypocaust was expensive, the middle and lower classes continued to use open hearths beneath holes in the roof. Sometimes charcoal braziers would heat individual rooms and the smoke would just accumulate up at the ceiling and eventually dissipate through cracks.
However, you are correct that fireplace chimneys as we think of them today did not appear until the end of the dark ages, and even then did not come into general use in manors until the late 13th century.

Only the Hardcover so far... that is so annoying. I don't know why they can't offer the ebook version at the same price for those of us who don't have room for loots of dead trees

I am looking forward to ordering the ebook the day it becomes available :)

No pre-order, though as I calculate my survival (I have some health issues) this year at about 20% and pre-ordering would serve no useful purpose.

I'll admit, though that reading both Safehold and War God snippets are keeping me entertained between Chemo sessions :D

I get nearly as much fun reading the Safehold forum as I do reading the completed story !!

I don't know why they cant offer the E-book at a much lower price than the dead tree version, since you don't need dead trees, ink or delivery services for them.
