That's probably why, as far as I know, none of Merlin's toys have internal combustion engines or run on fossil fuel.

Seriously, though, OWL has the information needed to discourage ICEs and encourage a move away from using fossil hydrocarbons as fuel. OWL also has the information on how the Terran Federation generated clean, cheap energy and can guide innovators down the necessary tracks.

I'd rather have a fusion powered skimmer with a sub-four second zero to six-hundred time. :P

Not sure you'd be real happy with it. Let's do a little arithmetic. assuming that the 600 is miles per hour, that is 880 ft/sec. if we are going to be going 880 ft/sec at the end of 4 seconds, then the acceleration is 220 ft/sec^2. G is 32 ft/sec^2, so this gives an acceleration of 6.875 gravities - not real comfortable. And 3 seconds give us 9.1 g. Definitely not comfortable.

Pffft! :P

That's what grav-plates, intertial compensators, and g-suits are for. :P :P :P

Wrong universe. There is no textev for grav-plates, intertial compensators, and g-suits

Well we do know Merlin can go from supersonic flight in the sky to down on the ground fighting within about 1 sentence of internal dialogue. That implies a pretty stiff deceleration built in to the system. And even though Merlin himself may not be terribly vulnerable to it personally, the system was built for humans.

Do you think that Merlin would have risked taking a pregnant Sharly to Nimues' cave via skimmer without inertial compensators? No G-suits though because there would have been a discussion about how to dress in one and/or what it was for during one of humans trips in a skimmer.

Just because we only get 1 sentence of internal dialogue during the interval between two events doesn't mean it only took a few seconds. The text does not give us moment-by-moment details. In other books we have seen internal dialogue provide the transition between events we know from other context are separated by an hour or more, or mere milliseconds.

So, is this is envisioning a tie-in to John Ringo's Troy Rising series? Let's see: space gates, time travel, parallel universe, twin star system.
Thinking. Dim light here.
