Not yet, they don't have real medicine so diseases are deadly and death rates are very high. They're hell better than on Earth in XVIII century, but we need modern medicine to make life of people longer. Penicillin shouldn't be that hard to get and it's good for any kind of disease.

Safehold medicine thanks to the book of Pasquale is closer to late 19th Century than 18th century. IIRC, Safehold has "Herbal" medicines that rival modern artificial medicines even though the "theory" behind aseptic practices is couched as divine direction and superstition.

The "Three-score and Ten" is a biblical reference, IIRC, which means that a life expectancy of 70 years predates modern medical practices by about 2,000 years or so.

Then there was poor ole Methusalah at 960+ years... wonder if he ever got bored...

Not a problem - Meth didn't make it into the Writ. I'm willing to bet that Noah didn't either, because that could have caused a lot of questions Langhorne didn't want asked.

Anyway, back to Thirsk, I think that he had a meeting with one of seijins and that he have some kind of armor.

So lets suppose he had antiballistic undies, recall that the blunt force trauma alone, broke Shareys ribs. Merlin was going to try to fix that, however, getting shot at close range is very dangerous, whatever the precautions. Heck, he could split open his skull when he bounces from that chair into the fireplace.

Must have an equivalent of Noah's son Ham. Can't have slaves without divine justification.

My main problem with ballistic undies is where is all the blood. When the executioner sees there is no bleeding he will know Thirsk is aiding and abetting the enemy. Therefore he truly is the enemy and must meet the proscriptions of the Writ. His family too!

Unless the whole thing was staged... heck, in that event they could have arranged for something that looks like blood to compplete the effect. Wonder if they have ketchup on Safehold?

Your words have "mortally wounded" me.

Yes that was a bit forced.

Weird Harold
Not really. You could live to seventy, but life expectancy was not seventy, even after you remove the massive amount of dead babies from the equation. A life expectancy of forty was pretty good 2000 plus years ago.

n7axw
Actually, Methusalah's enormous lifespan was probably due to the screwy Babylonian numerical system. Look up the lives of some Babylonian/Sumarian kings. 960 yeas is just getting out of diapers.

TN4994
Not necessarily. I'm sure there must have a slave holding society without a religious pretext. I can't think of any, but there are past attempts at secular justifications for slavery(they fail utterly and miserably, but they were there).

Although I should point out that many times RFC has written that the Harchong Aristocracy's support of the Church is in part due to the Church legitimizing there holding of slave(and other repressive activities)

I don't think that either the Greeks or the Romans used a religious justification for slavery. It was more the logic of empire - we conquered you, and you will therefore serve us.

The gods had many inferior beings serve their needs.
Zeus/Jupiter had his auras
Poseidon/Neptune had his Satyrs
Hephaestus/Vulcan had Cyclops man the forges.
Hades/Pluto had Thanatos.
I forget who did Aphrodite/Venus's hair.

Evan the Titan Atlas was forced into slavery.
