Not entirely; IIRC the date wasn't announced for a while after we heard the manuscript was turned in, and I think 14 months is a bit unusually long. (Or maybe not... but this isn't really a very long book for Tor, given they publish Brandon Sanderson, so...)

It's not that unusual when the manuscript is unexpectedly delayed. As I've explained in previous threads, publishing schedules are planned out well in advance, and very tightly packed. If there is uncertainty on when the manuscript will be ready, it is hard to schedule a print run. I imagine that, once they finally knew when the manuscript would be ready, they fit the print run in whenever it would fit.

FYI: I just perused Amazon to see if a date had been set yet by searching on RFC's mundane name. Nothing for HFQ but there is the next "Wargod" / Bahzell Bahnakson book "Sword of the South" scheduled for 4 August 2015, a mere 233 days away.

Assuming a 10 November release (2nd Tuesday) date for HFQ, we have a dreary 331 days of snippet-anodyne wait to find out the fate of the Earl of Thirsk and other burning questions! :x

Baen has always had a much faster turnaround than Tor or other 'larger' publishers, at least for their top stars. I'm not sure if that's a product of them being a smaller, leaner company, a shorter editorial cycle, or what, but it is what it is. Plus there's the very short cycle of the eARC.

Even given Tor's traditional long editorial, promotion, and print cycle, I'm surprised they slotted it in so late. The Safehold series has been a regular bestseller for Tor for going on 7 years now, and they're big enough they could 'make' a slot in the summer time frame if they wanted to and capture that revenue stream earlier. They've had a history of doing just that, particularly with Robert Jordan.

Oh well... they probably figure that RFCs audience is rabid enough that we'll buy it in droves whenever it comes out. :)

And they may have decided to market it as a Christmas book, rather than a summer read, which makes an early November release more sensible.

I just happened to peruse Amazon myself after seeing the post made in the War God section about the release of the new book in that series, and I looked up HFQ as well and Amazon now states that it's release date is September 8th, 2015... so TWO RFC books within a month of each other? I think I'm about to be pretty busy next fall....

If true that's an improvement over mid-Nov 2015.

Just placed my HB order - USD 23.28! Changing Time frame from 330 days to 267 days which may mean another 25 (or so) Snippets! 63 days earlier than previously expected. Allocating September 9th to mix of reading and exercise - break every 3 hours for 30 minutes of exercise! :P

Whoa, whoa, here guys... let's stop, take a breath and clarify...

I could be wrong here, but as I understand what what said above is that the Wargod book will be September 15. RFC stated that HFQ is to be released Nov. 1, so I'm not sure where the Nov. 15 date is coming from.

So... does someone else have a better way of sorting this out?

I have just been to the Amazon web site. The release date for Sword of the South is given as 4 August, 2015
The release date for Hells Foundations Quiver is given as 8 September 2015.

Now it is possible that Amazon has got it wrong, but that's what the web site says
