So what's better? Resurrecting an old thread and making it available for the newbys to educate themselves or allow the newbys to explore their ideas in a new thread?

Dunno. But I do know for someone to come by and squash a discussion because they find it old stuff can be irritating and is certainly not hospitible to someone new to the forum.

What he said. I was perhaps overly harsh in another thread in response to SWM comment, but I think it is wise for the old hands to remember that not everyone has been on this forum since 2010, or whenever. Perhaps a private message to the individual might have been in order, not responding to many of his resurrections with a rather curt "Why are you doing this?"

As one from the middle (not an 'old hand' from the early days of the Forum but with several years and ovewr 1300 posts, not a 'newbie' either), I think one of the major issues was not that old threads were resurrected (that has been done now and then), but that 12-15 were brought forward from the archives and bumped the current discussions down the Forum and in some cases to page 2 and 3 of the lists. I think this is what has made many folks unhappy--not the old threads (some of which have resumed their activity), but the sheer number and disruption it cuased to current conversations.

If I could offer a compromise, if you want to bring an old thread forward because you feel you have something to add to it, do so; but don't bring 10-15 old threads all at once and 'spam' the current discussions; that tends to make many (including me) grumpy...and you won't like us when we're grumpy... :o 8-)

Ya lost me -- but I think I understand the adverse effect. The fact that I brought up some old threads bounced more active threads down in the forum order (?), which is a bad thing...

Duly noted, maybe a "here's the polite way to play" thread could be pinned to the top somewhere?

Hutch is right, Sharkhunter. But it it doesn't mean you should take too much bulls**t from the "old salts."

In fairness to Hutch, he doesn't hand it out.
