And the contingencies would change depending on whether the leader is at home, is traveling, is on a member world, is at the hospital, . . . These are the things that their security forces are constantly evaluating, updating, and devising as the situation changes.

From what we know of Eloise Pritchart, she might insist that her (unnamed) Vice-President be carried off to safety to insure continuity and she would stay in the relative safety of a deep command bunker. In this case, she MIGHT be able to overrule her security chief.

I would like to know Alfredo's opinion of Dicey's level of intelligence.

I suspect it is higher than a Death Fang / Hexapuma, but how much higher and what Dicey's capabilities might be.

She doesn't have a vice president. If something happens to her, the Secretary of State takes over until a special election happens for a new president.

High functioning Autism and Aspergers are similar but not the same.

After reading up on related disorders, Francesca showed signs of Heller's syndrome.
Rare enough now, and lumped into ASD's, that a society that knew little of Autism might have forgotten about it.

Hi Stewart,

There has been much speculation of what treecats think of Terran domestic cats.

Some joke about the Terran cats empathically telling the treecats to keep mum about how they're really running humanity. 8-)

True. I guess my suspicion is that this would higlight the hubris of Mesa. They tried to go too much for mathematical ability and wound up with Heller's syndrome, a ASD. The Forward Planning Commission assumes that the traits they are selecting for are the best ones.

Off-world visitors to Grayson used to wear masks. Since crystoplast, I don't think that is frequently necessary, lest venturing outside a domed city. My question is, are off-worlders medically screened, monitored and treated? Manticoran and Havenites living on Grayson long term have not built up tolerances.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

I assume that everyone is monitored and screened, both natives and visitors. It's a hazardous world, it would be illogical not to have frequent heavy metal screenings.

That would be my take on it as well. Where I'm headed is this; not much is known of treecat physiology, and a hazardous environment, unlike their native Sphinx, could have unforeseen side effects. Perhaps even render them mind blind, or completely sterile or any other measure of unforeseen problems.

Ah, yes, I see. It is a reasonable concern.

I'm not too worried about it. Unlike humans, treecats almost never leave protected areas. But it's certainly possible that some might be exposed unexpectedly and suffer harm. They face the same dangers as the other residents of Grayson. Accidents are rare, but they happen.

On the other hand, I would say that the civilized areas of Grayson where the treecats spend all their time are far less dangerous than their native forests on Sphinx. :) They don't have to worry about forest fires, peak bears, hexapumas, famines, or simply falling out of trees. Even Nimitz, in a similarly controlled environment but exposed to the perils of war, is in far greater danger of poisons and radiation than the resident treecats of Grayson.
