Re what we can reasonably expect by way of snippets, does anyone have a reasonable estimate of word count for any of the books, preferably LAMA? Excluding the thousand or so pages of characters, glossary etc, of course.

I don't have word counts, but the physical page count of OAR was 532 (just text) and my Nook copy of that book was 722 pages (just text). By the time of LAMA, I was only buying the Nook versions, and the text content for it was 696 pages (just text) - which implies a physical page count of around 512 pages. Given the rough guideline of 2000 words/page, that puts OAR at about 106K words and LAMA at around 102K. Hope this helps ========================

Thanks for trying to help. Only thing is that 512 pages times 2000 words per page comes to 1024k words total, which I'm pretty sure won't be right. I'll try to OCR some pages and come back with a better per page estimate tomorrow. |

I really shouldn't try to do arithmetic right after I wake up. The 20K/page was bytes (or characters), so the length of the book is about 1MB, not one Megaword. I believe that there are generally considered to be 5-6 bytes/word, so that gives a length of 160-200K words - does that seem more reasonable? ========================

I couldn't OCR my copy of MTaT it's too thick to get good enough page scans; it's the standard TOR hardback published in Britain. So I resorted to manual counting of a page taken fairly at random from the book and came up with a word count of 499. It has 536 pages of novel for a word count of 267k. That will be high since my page was full and had no titling so say around 250k words. Assuming your OAR is the same format, that would make OAR about 250k and LAMA about 240k words. Ignoring snippet 3, which was a tiny special, the average word count per snippet is about 1400. So if HFQ is about 240k words a snippet every 10 days would only be about 27% of the book. That seems perfectly OK to me! |

Just really got reading this thread.
Earlier someone made a joke about Cnippet Request and the spelling. Well if it had been spelled Knippet, then we would be flooded with Fifeisms. Such as: "Knip it, Knip it in the bud." |

Well, it has been 9 days since the 1am (EST) drop of #12 and I am quite ready for #13's debut Mr Demille ... oops, I mean RFC! We have assets in the air and a war going on so chop, chop!

I think sometime Thursday (11 Dec) is the most likely time to see #13. I like how you think but I firmly believe that if we try to assault the MWW/RFC the whole 8th Fleet from the Honorverse will blow us away regardless of what we do. Beside, wizards are quick to anger. |

It's not been 10 days, so it is time for the pleasing to start in earnest.
