Is Clyntahn planning on using the Border States as a buffer?

A) Nope, as: it's not mentioned in the snippets.
B) Nope: he's not planning on using them as a buffer.

I could just say yes, but actually it's A.

Hi FallFromTrees,

The Border States by their very name were assembled, used and seen a buffer by the Temple lands for a couple centuries, as we've read in the textev from OAR on.

This despite the fact the republic never had any intention or desire to attack the temple or the KotTL or the BS, but the vicars were paranoid, because the guilty suspect all are like them, however irrational that may be.

Because the republic's leaders were rational they couldn't imagine anything as stupid and dangerous as the SoS.

So by the second anniversary of the SoS, the alliance will be crossing and conquering the BS at will.

The Border States were a far more effective barrier in the days of far smaller armies, shorter ranged weapons, more limited logistics, and control; a RSA rifle company within 2 days march of everywhere would mean only around 135,000 men assuming the BS are some 6 million square miles in area.

Thanks to the jihad and the SoS, the republic with EoC help is gearing up for a national mobilization that will put the CoGA to shame.

Given all the BS rifles made over the last 2-3 years [204,000] were given to the MHoGatA, they are now essentially helpless when the MHoGatA have been defeated and destroyed this summer and fall.

Furthermore, if the Border States population is only 80% serfs, then the republic's land reform means each serf could get as much as 56 acres EACH.

Given the large families the CoGA has always supported, most serf families could find themselves with 3-400+ acres, for a very decent sized farm.

I can see Cayleb adapting Lenin's simple propaganda from "Peace! Food! Land!" to "Freedom! Land! Food!" to win the serfs over, while the reformist's toleration does its work.

Hi Lyonheart,

I find myself wondering if conquering the border states really describes what is going to happen. Particularly now that their rifles have been confiscated for the Harchongians, they certainly not going to be opposition in any effective sense. So maybe crossing the border states would be a better description.

Also, I would disagree with the idea that the allies will be trying to transform the societies they encounter, with the exception of the Temple Lands where the vicars will be removed. The caveat here will be that the inquisition will be swept away with a clean broom. I suspect that the removal of the ability of the COGA's ability to enforce its own vision of things, people in these societies will eventually find their own center.

Hi Don,

This has been hashed out before, that given the EoC's anti- serf/slavery requirement, and the republic's opposition to slaves and serfdom, that the reaction to the alliance spreading to CoGA territory will compel it to insist on the end of slavery/serfdom in any terms the defeated sign, while the armies take it for granted as they advance.

Knowing this inevitability ahead of time most serf owners are going to leave before it happens, and many serfs may jump the gun.

I doubt Cayleb and the Lord Protector will let it happen, I suspect they already set this policy down in their treaty.

So once the CoGA starts losing, many serfs are going to begin thinking of when they can take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Then there are the levelers, who are in some numbers in the BS, being better organised than most opposition NTM serfs, I expect them to seize the moment as well.

HFQ should be full of such fascinating developments!

I could just say yes, but actually it's A.

I agree with your analysis, but the question was: "Is it mentioned in the snippets?", and the answer is no, it is not. There is no discussion (so far) in the snippets about the Border States, and/or Clyntahn intentions for them.
