This may be impractical however as you know that an electrical generator will set off the OBS couldn't you build one to start on a time delay and plant it on your enemies for the purpose of setting the OBS on them and destroying them.

Variants of this have been suggested before. The danger is that the OBS may well wake up whatever is under the Temple before Merlin and company are ready to deal with it. Since EoC and allies are currently winning, there doesn't appear to be any need to do so, and take the chance. ========================

NTM that such a bombardment is very likely to kill hordes of innocent civilians. The inner circle wouldn't touch that kind of strategy with a barge pole. |

If they do ever get control of it, i can see them stricking that thin land bridge between howard and haven, at its thinest section. It would allow charis easier access to harchong and dohlar.
It is a mountainous area, so they could claim it was simply a vulcano explosion or something. A huge devestated hole in the mountains that make the land bridge, then create canals to link the hole to the oceans. If that region is control by the empire, it guarantees control of the oceans of the world. IT greatly aids logistics. What would happen if this weapon was used on the frozen lake pei? It would make travel impossible during winter. It would permanetly alter the lake and region. |

My idea was to use it to either for bombardment of armies, EX the Harchongese, or for any fleets the COGA has left.

Another issue is the -last- thing they want is any sort of seeming proof that lends credence to the religion founded by Langhorne. The Rakurai firing would do so. Doubtful it'd ever happen. |

Well. if the Rakurai fell on the armies of the Church, it would indicate that God and the Archangels were in favor of Charis - which would seriously undermine the Church's authority, but I agree, it still falls in the category of "Really Bad Idea". ========================

Easy way to sole that problem would be firing it onto Reef of Armageddon there nobody living and very few people should see these rocks.

Aaand that's why Merlin set up his experiment with steam engines where he did- so no one( with the exception of a few Safeholdian lifeforms) would get flattened. There is No Way he's going to push for starting up an electrical generator at this point, not when it could mean getting most life on Safehold killed if the OBS decides to get testy. ====================================

David Weber has said that Merlin and the Inner Circle have good reasons to suspect that generation of electricity would provoke a response from the OBS.
Thus they are not going to "test for a response". On the other hand, there was nothing definite in the Writ concerning Steam Power so Merlin felt safe in testing for a response. Oh, David Weber has not said that Merlin and the Inner Circle are correct in their fears concerning generation of electricity.
