I quite agree. That sounds too much like somithing in the CoGA's military. But if you were to go with initiating separate female military branch, then you need someone who has advantages and knows a certain mindset. I nominate Princess Ohlyvya Bahtz as Minister of the Female Defense Unit. And part of the program would require all royal females not serving in the capacity of head of state to participate. Similar to the Old Charis requirement fo males of the royal house to serve in the navy.

How is recognizing the femininity of ladies patronizing? The only way that might be is if the one making those claims actually believes women are inferior to men. One doesn't have ignore the fundamental differences between men and women to believe they are equal.

Sorry. I was looking at the religious connotations. I.E. Superior General / Father General / Black Pope, Vicar General, Mother Superior, Mother Abbess, Provincial Sister, etc.

Roseandheather aren't hungry at the moment. So he'd probably get stuffed in the refrigerator! :lol:

Do you mean he'll stuff himself from the refrigerator, or someone will stuff him into the refrigerator? :mrgreen:

WINS is a really BAD idea. We're looking to move to a gender-neutral society that's gonna kick some Gbaba butt. Setting up a separate organization will only make it more difficult to integrate the empire's military forces. An officer is an officer. An NCO is an NCO. Does a male enlisted man have to salute a female officer? Is a female captain outranked by a male captain? Merlin and Nimue, and hopefully some members of the Inner Circle, know women have to be integrated into the armed forces. Setting WINS up with a completely separate command structure reinforces the idea that women have to be kept separate.
As the muscle requirement lessens more and more positions will open up for women. Quartermaster is a position mentioned where women can do the same function (replace) as men. Any non-combat slot (for the time being) can be filled by a woman if it does not entail heavy lifting. Separate housing, or separate spaces within buildings or ships can be a problem in some cases. New structures and equipment can be designed with this in mind.
Two other things are needed before integration at a significant level can occur. Birth control has to be developed and integrated into society. Devices to handle a woman's menstrual cycle, feminine napkins and tampons, etc., will have to be developed so a woman is not restricted in her job or location by her menstrual cycle.
Fire away. :)

Hi Ed,

I'm gonna fire, but only a puff-ball, because in principle I agree with you. But remember that this society is heavily patriarchal. WINS is probably a necessary intermediate step.

I believe the n7axw is basically correct. "Separate but equal" is better than just not equal. It isn't good but it is better.

On the subject of menstrual periods.
Due to various reproductive problems integrating women into a field army without modern(or relatively modern) medical care(read tampons, birth control, ect) which is expected to move could be problematic. If nothing else women get pregnant and men don't and people have sex. So you will be getting pregnant soldiers if you don't have birth control and you have female soldiers. A pregnant soldier is a problem, if nothing else in a couple months you will have to transfer them back to a base and transfer some other soldier forward to replace them. Basically the woman who got pregnant is like a soldier who lost a limb before modern prosthetics. They can be of use in rear areas, say doing clerical work, but they cannot fight anymore. Note: depending on the child care system in the country they may be available for a combat position later, but they are still out of action for at least say six months(only a guess I don't know what the date would be when a woman would need to be withdrawn from a combat position and a when the earliest date after delivery would be that the woman would be ready to go back)

Unless we go with female Peacekeepers from "Farscape". :D

I was basing my acronym on WWII acronyms like the WAVES which stood for;
Woman's
Accepted for
Volunteer
Emergency
Service

Or the WRNS pronounced Wrens;
Woman's
Royal
Naval
