Before there was terror in the Honorverse
There was terror on Terra.

Erase terra incognita, one post at a time.

Please forgive my indulgence here. I grew up as a very precocious military brat. A standard tradition of our families was paying homage to our military by frequenting airshows all over the world. My indoctrination as a child drew me in like a homing pigeon on a moth to a flame.

As a result, I adore anything that has to do with our nation's hardware, or our allies'. And even of our enemy's, I'm at least curious.

I thought to put together this thread, to amass a formidable arsenal of firepower of my own, to enjoy all in one place. If you know of any interesting, incredible, or amazing firepower to add to the stockpile of this internet megalomaniac, then Post-it.

Little wonder that

"Top Gun"
"Iron Eagle"
"Stealth"
"Above and Beyond"
"Midway"
"Ace of Aces"
"Bat 21"

... and so so, so so, so many more are amongst my favorite movies.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

I read a thread where someone was complaining about the number of people aboard the ships in the Honorverse.

"What can they all possibly do?," he innocently but naively asked.

Clearly this is someone who does not know the realities of war. This link, our illustrious U.S.S. Nimitz -- the biggest badass woody-giving  ship on the planet ...

Well she has over 6,000 men and women. Scale her up to superdreadnaught-like proportions and you'll quickly see that David Weber is spot on.

She is not why you may sleep at night.
She is why you may sleep well at night.

How could I forget to include one of my all time favorites, Deal of the Century, with Chevy Chase, Gregory Hines and the lovely Sigourney Weaver!

All of that hardware just lying around, in airshow fashion. Woodyville!

I remember being at an air show in an official capacity when my mobile (cell) phone rang just as the F18 Super Hornet was about to take off right in front of me. Conversation went "Hello", shouted "Sh*t, I can't hear you, speak louder can't you", pause until the sound lessened then "Oh, hello General". My companions thought that was hilarious for some reason.

Also quite noisy. One of my fondest memories is attending a big air show at Edwards Air Force Base in California USA years and years ago. You know the kind ... where they fly supersonic just overhead the spectators so we can all experience and enjoy the big huge crashing thunderous sonic booms.

They also shot off live ammo and dropped real bombs, but quite aways from the reviewing stands. Even being quite a ways off, a Wart Hog squirting off "short" 100 round bursts from its tank killing 30 mm auto cannon is a sight ... and sound to behold and remember. "BURRRPPPP!!" HB of CJ (old coot)

And you never ever forget those airshows!

I went to an airshow a few years ago with my dad and my son. There was one of the new fighter planes there and a MiG (fairly modern one) and I was in awe as the pilot of the fighter jet made that plane dance, practically hovering on the engine exhaust, then flipping it over and taking off at high speed. I have never seen a jet do that and it made me damned proud that the US is capable of building aircraft that can do that.

Seeing the performances up close and personal effects you in a most intimate fashion. Quite different than tv.

My niece used to shake with excitement watching the jets. You could literally watch her legs tremble. She would lose her balance during an overfly she'd be so excited. Initially I thought she was simply afraid. However, if we offered to leave, we'd have a fight on our hands.
