the last of "The Faithful" died off from heavy metal poisoning and the planet was retaken by the moderates without need for a fight.

I think that the Faithful, having proven by their victory that they were the Chosen People, had no difficulty in abandoning their old luddite theology and using whatever technology they needed in order to build God's Kingdom on Grayson.

This one will probably get me drawn and quartered.

After enduring the theft of plants from all over Sphinx for years little Stephanie Harrington manages to obtain a photograph and recording of the derisively named Treecats. The Sphinx Forestry Service places a M$500 bounty on the little monsters and they are driven to extinction within fifty years.

Sphinx is known as The Planet of The Treecats!

D'oh! That wasn't from the original Planet of the Apes. That was from Elephant Man. Oh well, still fits.

Son, your mother says I have to hang you. Personally I don't think this is a capital offense. But if I don't hang you, she's gonna hang me and frankly, I'm not the one in trouble. —cthia's father. Incident in ? Axiom of Common Sense

Nah - that was the whole problem - they didn't want to use "whatever was needed to survive" to "help themselves". They trusted in "God to provided" and failed to "help themselves". So, since they failed to help themselves, God didn't see the need to help them either & they all went to see him in person.

I actually was going to write a fan fiction about a parallel universe for HHverse but it fell through, lets see if I can add to the dog pile.

1. The Star Empire of Manticore a sprawling Empire with a sharp eye for conquering its neighbors through brute force and economic manipulation through its wormhole junction.

2. Grayson is a pure atheist/agnostic colony founded a long time before SEM was around, having invented/use fusion run starships before it was cool and generally rejecting God in every way. Their sister colon Masada is a little more extreme in their dislike for God(s) but they get along great.

3.The Republic of Haven was at first a horrible nation which managed to turn it around to become a shining beacon against corruption and contrast to its power hungry stellar neighbor.

4. The Silsian Confederacy worked out quite well, despite such a loose central government it is a rich and prosperous place which often sends its warships on humanitarian aide to the words of what are collectively refered to as 'Andermani'

5. The Solarian League is a pretty good nation which has it faults, but its crowning acheivement is its navy, the most powerful up to day Navy in the universe, there are rumors some of their ships might use very small fission plants and even have some form of FTL communication.

6. The most brutal officer in the SEM, Honor Harrington. Known for her ruthless tactics she is often the most feared commander for both the enemy and her own crews. She rarely takes prisoners and if you are a part of her crew you don't want to piss her off.

7. And lets not forget how she got to such a high rank in such a short time. Rumor has it she bedded Hamish Alexander to get him to 'sponsor' her to high rank quickly. The two might even like each other, though Paul Tankersley might not like the idea, he's more than willing to share his wife if it means the household gets more money.

8. And lets not forget about our beloved treecats. Cute and cuddly at first site the second they get angry they will shred your face to bits and rip your heart out. They seem to be attracted to those that love to spill blood and take lives.

9. The Mesan Alignment is a secret organization dedicated to eradicating extreme genetically modified humans and especially those that make slaves. They can't go public for fear of bringing Beowolf, an open producer of slaves and the planet on which the 'Revocation of Slave Rights' bill was signed by the SEM, the Andermani and numerous smaller planets.

Impossible : they are the descendants of a group of agnostic scientists and technicians. When their planet was rediscovered after centuries of isolation they had not only regained the time lost during the journey but had even surpassed the rest of the human worlds in scientific knowledge.
They were so traumatised by Manticoran discrimination against women that they became Haven's best ally against them.

I forgot to add : Grayson is the only planet where the most popular sport in the known universe, baseball, is forbidden by Law. The legend says that the first director of Grayson University Colony - and genius scientist - Austin Grayson is responsible for that, because some students broke his lab's window during a crucial experiment and he banned it from the planet as a result.

Grayson doesn't exactly ban baseball, but it is regarded as a sport for young children and called 'rounders'. It is used as training hand/eye coordination as a preparation for Grayson's truly popular sport - cricket. Meanwhile, on Manticore, the wearing of armour on playing fields has been banned so Football has mutated back to become Rugby.
