Just toying with idea "any good setting must have it's mirrorverse" (from some trekkie - i must admit, i didn't remember the author of the quote). ;) Well, how the Honorverse's Mirrorverse could possibly look?

1) The evil, corrupted and imperialistic Star Kingdom of Manticora, ruled by the totalitarian monarch and degraded aristocracy, started the ruthless campain of colonial conquest again their peasefull neighbors. And yes, all RMN staff are obliged by law to wear goatees (womans included) :D

2) The peaceful and prosperous People Republic of Haven, under the command of President R.S. Pierre (and great humanitarian Oscar Saint-Just ) didn't like the idea of war with Manticora, but forced to be ready to defend against agressor.

3) The Beowulf planet is know for its fanatical hatred for the genetic improvement of mankind, extends to the genocide and enslavement of "modified" communites as "genetic slaves". The system Verdant Vista was turned by Beowulfean into the giant concentration camp for "inpure" modified humans.

4) Opposing to the Beowulf, the Mesa Star Nation (founded by the noble Leonard Detweiler openly proclaimed the genetic modifications as the way to improve humanity, for the benefit of all human race. The "Manpower Incorporated" known in all galaxy for helping millions of colonists to better adapt to new worlds.

5) The Audubon Ballroom is a anti-beowulfean terrorist organisation, fighting against the oppression of modified peoples.

8) The Solarian League is actually pretty same, but the ruling bureaucracy is constantly struggling against corruption and corporate tyranny.

7) The Office of Frontier Security is the constantly undermanned and underfunded organisation, mostly based on enthusiasts, that struggle tp mantain peace and order on the borders of SL. The main population of League looks at the members of the OFS as hopelessly insane idealists, and the great corporations of the League look at them with annoyance - because the OFS prevents the uncontrolled corporate subjugation of weak star nations.

8) The treecats is a dangerous race of empathic parasites that treat people as their servants, who must take care of them, feed them, play with them, ... Wait, isn't it still about mirror-treecats? :D

We see that Dilandu sill disses our poor treecats remember this post:

Dilandu wrote:Well, the Manticorans claim that the cats have some telepathic / empathic abilities. Others may believe it, or may not ... but why not to use it?

Let's just note that telepathy - the ability to penetrate into some other thought - definitely isn't something, that most people can easily accept. Peoples tend to be very nervously about the sovereignty of their brains, you know.

So... why no one has yet figured to use the treecats in the anti-manticoran propaganda?

I could figured out the three possible ways, that a named "the alien invasion version", "the epidemic version" and "the artifical version"

1) (Alien invasion version) The treecats, those furry bastards ARE actually the covert manipulators of events! They penetrated the structure of the Star Kingdom and took control over the goverment and military officials (even the royal family!) Oh, the treecat's bonded peoples would deny... but only because "their" treecats has forced them to do that! ;)

2) (Epidemic version) Well, the treecats bonding were obviously affected human mind. So, the "bonded" peoples, possibly, couldn't really think logically at all. It's not treecats fault, this is only a terrible mistake that treecats-affected individuals, like Elisabeth Winton, could become the rulers of the Star Nations...

3) (The artifical version) The treecats abilites couldn't be developed naturally. After all, it's completely scientifically impossible, that the evolution of so different species, divided by the hundreds of light years, could produce the human-treecat telephatic bonding!

So...obviously, the treecat's abilites are the result of Beowulf-Manticoran secret project to develope a telephatically-based methods of control, and mentally enslave the Manticoran population! And due the fact, that under the pretense of "defense against mesan-blah-blah-blah-nanotechnology", treecats where send to the goverments of Andermani and Haven... Their leaders are under telepathic control too!

Nice suggestion, isn't it? :D

The Silesian Confederacy is a model of stability, honesty and good government.

The Andermani Empire works tirelessly to bring its subject systems to the point where they govern themselves successfully, shedding a system on average once a decade.

Erewhon started life as a retirement colony for former police officers and is now a fascistic police state.

The Faithful won the war on Grayson and the Moderates fled to the Endicott System, where the more benign environment has allowed them to build there resources and allow them to fend of the ceaseless attacks from Yeltsin's Star.

I think the Audubon Ballroom would wind up as a group of self-loathing genetically-improved terrorists who attack everything Mesan because they have been brainwashed by Beowulfan propaganda and are funded under the table by the Biological Survey Corps, a Beowulfan organization hell bent on preserving the purity of the human race by wiping out settlements of modified humans.

In the mirrorverse, all 'cats sport the requisite "evil" facial hair (a la "A Beautful Friendship" cover, perhaps?)
